The Prince woke up to find the Rebel absent. This was quite worrying considering the state that they left. The Rebel stormed off after he found the scroll. It was clearly something they found in the office. He should probably go back to see if it was something he should know about.
It was hard to tell if the Rebel had stormed off to confront their mother or to get away from the Prince in regards to what they had found. He hoped it was something the Rebel leader put in there. He had a bit of a panic attack thinking it was something of the royals that they found. It was only made worse when they didn't show up at all for the night.
He decided just to wait to see if they came back it was just really late. That was when he found himself waking up to banging on his door. He jumped out of bed running to the door wondering why the Rebel would be knocking. When he opened the door he was surprised to find that it was the Captain of the army and Sir Theodor.
"Sire can we come in?" The Knight asked helmet in his hand.
"Yes, of course. What has happened?" The Prince said opening the door to let them in. The commander took one of the chairs by the fireplace as the knight stood by him. The Prince took the other chair feeling a mix of confusion and worry.
"There has been a incident in the dungeon. It would seem that the Rebel you have been close with let the others out of their cells. They all escaped out an old stoned up tunnel. They killed two guards and wounded several others in the escape. They have escaped into the woods and can not be found within the boarders of the kingdom."
Sentence after sentence make the princes stomach turn. What could they have possibly found that make the Rebel run with their mother. Probably to get a second attack when the kingdom was weak. They didn't even talk to the Prince about it knowing that he probably didn't know anything about it anyways.
They had disagreements in the past but the Rebel would always talk to resolve any problems. Running away like this was just not something they would do. Certainly not after the way they condemned their mother for what she did to him. Not after the way they took care of him.
"Not possible." The Prince said standing up picking out his clothes for the day. Something he could work in without getting over heated. The Captain must have the whole situation wrong.
"Sire?" The commander said as he and the Knight watched the Prince move around the room a disappear behind the changing wall.
"It is not possible for them to behave like that. You have the story wrong Captain." The Prince said remember how the Rebel was angry before running off.
"How can you say that then have that bruise on your face? You have clearly seen how dangerous the rebels can be." The knight outspoke.
"It was not there when we were all called to the war room to speak. With that and the escape I would say that you did not know him as well as you think." The Prince walked out with a low simmer of anger around him. You could feel it like heat coming off a pan.
"THEY did not do this but the Rebel Leader herself. If you speak of this to anyone outside the room I will have you job."
The Prince got up near the Captain before in a low voice saying, "If I ever hear that you have mis identified them I will have your head." The Prince pulled back. "Sir Theo?" He asked in a sudden calm tone that made the Knight look taken a back. "I want you to take your squad and walk me through the path that they left."
"Captain, find another lieutenant to take over the rebuilding efforts. I don't want anything to suffer as we find out what is going on. And prepare for another attack. I want defence plans presented tomorrow at noon." The Prince said all this going over to the vanity to cover up the bruise. "Am I understood?" When he heard nothing from either of the other men in the room. He turned around to see them just watching him.
He cleared his throat prompting them both responded with a "Yes sire." before leaving the room. The Prince calmed himself almost having a total outburst at the news. Something else was going on, something that the Rebel found, and the Prince needed to find out what it was before harm could come to either one of them. It wasn't long before he joined the group of six soldiers with their lieutenant Theodor.
"Show me the cells." The Prince said in a firm tone not taking anything but compliance. He would make sure he didn't sound harsh put this was rather important to make sure the kingdom stabilised or if there was still more to come. It would be the first time the Prince was in a position of power doing something official.
It would also be the first time dealing with anything without the Rebel beside him. It was an all around uncomfortable situation to be in. The Prince looked over the cell that the majority of the rebels were held in. It looked like someone had had the keys and used them from the inside of the cell.
Something they would have to question the guard that was still alive about that night. There was no scratches or signs that the cells lock was picked open. He then looked at the Rebel leaders cell. It was very much the same with the keys being used on the outside. He turned to start walking towards where the new hole in the dungeon was when he saw blood.
His first thought of the Rebel but considering there was deaths it could have been anyone's. It was at their head height with some blood on the floor under it. If anything it was a really bad sign of what they were going to find. The Prince and lieutenant started walking through the tunnel with the squad trailing. They started following a path of flatten grass that was leading towards the fastest path to the forest.
"So they went to the forest, and you can't find anything more?" The Prince asked looking at the empty field.
"That is what we can understand from the path sire. There was a patrol that was already walking through the woods that were put up right after the attack on the kingdom looking for anyone that ran away."
"Do we even know where they were going?" The Prince started to walked through the field with the squad following.
"We have not found that out yet." the captain said walking slightly in front of the prince.
"Right, okay, check out the camp site if they left anything that would indicate anything. How long they were going to be traveling for or where they were travelling to and such." The Prince stopped at the edge of the woods where it looked like there a bit of a scuffle.
There was several broken branches, and the grass definitely looked like there was a struggle that took place with the way the grass was flattened. The Prince looked around for any clues when he spotted a white envelope that was really out of the way. The Prince picked it up vaguely recognising it from the room they looked at yesterday.
'this must have been what Ace found.' The Prince looked in it to find the rebels ring and a letter. Like it wasn't obvious enough who was sending the clue. The Prince put the ring on one of his fingers, he was planning on putting on a chain when he got back to the castle. The Prince started reading the letter addressed to the Rebel leader.
It was dated a couple days ago so the place it was sent couldn't have been far. It was wishing to hear about the attack and the full confidence in the Rebel leader. That the sender was waiting to hear to send princesses to court the young Rebel 'prince' as the letter stated.
When the Prince got to the end of the letter it wasn't signed or anything. There was evidence there was a seal on the front. Something he would have to look at the other letters in the room for. It was clear that this was a joint effort but how far back it was going was something that more reading required to find out. The group of knights came back finding very little towards where they were going.
The Prince was sure he had found enough to have an idea. The library was going to be a necessary visit as well.
"Right, I think that will be enough. I want you all to be ready to ride out on a rescues mission if needed with in the week though. Sir Theodor I want a daily check in if you find or hear anything and I will update you on my findings." The Prince said before turning to walk back to the castle. It was the best thing he could think of at the time.
He was also trying not to remember of all his other responsibilities that he was going to have to deal with himself. When he got back to his room he took everything out of his going away bag and took it to the throne room as the sun was coming down on the kingdom. It was going to be a long couple of days for the both of them. Hopefully they would survive.
