Athena POV
My old pack showed up a couple days ago and now we are having to prepare for war. A guy I grew up with was once my friend, and now Alex was challenging us for the rank of Alpha. The day they left the pack their links were severed. My father and I were all that remained. There are things such as packs that consist of 2, 3, 6, hundreds, and sometimes even thousands. They all just have different names they are called for each level.
I couldn't stand anymore and I went back inside to sit down. I sat on the couch thinking how could this get any worse. What can I do to help since I'm pregnant. With twins none the less. I wasn't able to help plan meals anymore, hell I couldn't even cook anymore right now, or fight at all. My dad couldn't fight either because of his broken leg.
He sat on the couch next to me and was telling me it would all be ok. Beta Joe stayed with Adam and that gave me more comfort in knowing he would be ok. I knew the rest of the pack was alerted and a lot of the ones who could not fight were in the shelter. Some packs have humans because we very rarely had a mate with a human, but some did. My father occasionally gave me hugs knowing I was extremely worried. We could hear the fighting start to end and a lot of the rogues ran off.
We all knew that this was not the last of them and that they were going to be returning. In the mean time Adam was devising a plan to help defend us, but he had an uncle he hadn't seen since his parents' death. They often wrote letters back and forth showing pictures with me and him and how the babies have made my tummy grow. I was due any day at this point due to how fast the babies were growing. Adam intended to call him in the morning. I fell asleep on the couch with worry still running through my mind.
I only woke up briefly when Adam came back in and kissed me on the forehead. He was covered in blood and I knew he was not going to hold me until he was cleaned up. I laid on the couch watching a cartoon called Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of The Where Rabbit until I dozed back to sleep. It was several hours later when I woke up and Adam was still home, my dad was asleep in the recliner, and I just felt immense pain in my stomach and back all at once. I knew something was wrong and all I could do was scream and cry in pain. My dad jumped up immediately recognized the labor signs.
Before he could say anything Adam had already swooped me up from the couch and was running out the door. Beta Joe was shortly behind us for extra protection along with my dad surprisingly running on his broken leg. Dr. Prin was running into the room behind us. As soon as Adam had me set down she began to examine me and when she saw I was already having one baby crowing there was no time for prep. She washed her hands quickly after pressing a button to page for a nurse. A nurse ran into the room realizing what was happening and got herself prepped along with Dr. Prin. 5 minutes later The first baby came and it was a little boy.
I knew something was wrong with him, because he was not crying or moving, and his eyes were not opened when she showed him to me and he looked a little blue. I kept calm despite the possibility of knowing I may have lost him and I had to still deliver one more baby. Another nurse came to help with trying to help revive my little boy and Annie came to help Dr. Prin. Another 15 minutes later and our little girl was here, and she was so beautiful. She reminded me of my mother and how pretty she was. I missed my mother terribly and wished she could be here to see both the babies.
Adam knew how I felt about my mother and knew this was a rough time of not having her. Finally, after another half hour I was able to hold my baby girl. They took my little boy away and rushed him out to get him more help than what they could do in the delivery room. I prayed to the moon goddess that if she took him to take him when he was peacefully asleep, but just the same I wanted him to be healthy. After several hours the nurses brought a wheelchair for me to our son. He was barely hanging on to life. They had him all hooked up monitoring his oxygen, heartbeat, a feeding tube and all. I cried holding my baby boy close to my chest, and I cried at the sight of how fragile he looked.
Adam stayed with him a while longer and I went back to our room so I could feed our baby girl that we decided to name Lyra and pump so my little boy could have some milk in hopes it would save him. I loved him so much and I would miss him if he goes, but I want him to not be in any more pain. Once I had a couple of bottles filled, I paged for a nurse so she could take it to my son. I wanted him to have a fighting chance to make it. I began doing the paper work for having my babies named.
I decided to name my daughter Lyra. For my son we had to figure out a name for him. He was hanging on and fighting like crazy. We all went to bed and Adam stayed with him during the night while I had Lyra. Lyra and her brother had a connection like no other I had seen. When they began to give her shots, put a monitor on her foot they both felt it and were very stressed out.
The only reason why I knew they had this great bond was because when Lyra got her shots and she cried, so did little man, and Adam was the one who told me he was crying for no reason. Lyra was crying around 4 am and nothing I did helped her, that was when the nurse ran in with tears in her eyes. She couldn't speak, you could see the whelp forming in her throat as the tears streamed down her face. I jumped from my bed and ran to where they had my son laying in the nursery for babies who were struggling. He had made it about 12 to 13 hours after birth before he let go of life. He was gone and I lost my baby boy.
I held my baby's lifeless body as he looked peacefully asleep still and I thanked the moon goddess for taking him with no pain. I still wanted my baby boy but I still had Lyra who relied on us and I had to stay strong. We finally had to hand him over to Dr. Prin and she was able to call his time of death at 4:10 am. She wrapped him up for us to hold him for a while longer to say our final good byes. We decided to have him cremated and spread his ashes to be with mother earth. We as werewolves we don't get buried, we must be cremated and kept with family memorials or spread out with mother earth.
I wanted my son to be with mother earth and I wanted to feel happy about him not being in any more pain, but it was hard to feel that way. We went back to our room and I fed Lyra and then we all went to bed. The next morning came sooner than we realized, but I was happy Dr. Prin was making arrangements to have little man cremated. We were happy to able to take Lyra home. My father got to see her for the first time when we got home. He only stayed at the hospital long enough to make sure that I got there safely and when we made it Beta Joe and My dad went back to the house.
My father has always been able to feel my pain and when we got home, he already knew. His eyes were red from crying from never getting the chance to hold his first grandson, hear him laugh, cry, and grow up to find his mate. He held Lyra close by kissing her forehead whispering the same promise to me when I was first born. Hearing my father tell her he would fight to keep her safe until he is dead brought me comfort. I may be half werewolf but I still had to have at least 2 to 3 weeks to heal from having our baby. See normal humans need 6 to 8 weeks to heal some times longer, but depending on what we have done it can be as little as 2 weeks or 3 to 4 weeks to heal.
I sat down still healing from having two babies knowing I was going to hurt for a while. Lyra felt her brother pass and had been up set from his passing, but after several hours she had calmed down knowing he was no longer in pain. Lyra also had a rare gift along with being a Rainbow Luna she had a gift where when she touched you she was able to tell you how she felt and see memories. I fell asleep on the couch for a while and it felt good to go to bed. I knew Lyra would be fine, because I pumped a lot of milk for her that way anyone could feed her. When I woke up I was in bed and I could hear them laughing and the baby monitors were plugged in.
It was afternoon and I poked my head in Lyra's room and she was asleep. I watched as she slept and I went to the kitchen to get something small to eat. I made some lunch and saw that I needed to pump more milk so I went back to the bedroom and pumped more milk. I wanted to make sure anyone who wanted to hold her could and if they wanted to feed her they could too. Once I was done I went and filled some of the fresh milk into containers that have been cleaned. I heard her cry, but I was still filling up the bottles and putting them away in the fridge.
When I was finally done and I went to check on her my dad had already been in the room and was holding her. He was singing one of my favorite lullabies that he use to sing to me all the time. I had a bottle of her milk that I heated up for her and of course she ate it for her grandpa and fell back to sleep. I couldn't help but watch from the door way as the two of them just snuggled together. I snapped a picture so I could show Adam later. Time flew by so fast I couldn't believe it was already evening time.
Alpha Adam POV
I had been in the office all day making calls hoping to have back up in enough time to keep my wife and child safe. Her father was down due to a broken bone in his leg and he was healing and hoping to be up in the next few weeks but would still fight if he had to. I knew I had to protect my family. I had some of my construction people who worked for a construction company work on building a better underground shelter. Once we drew up a plan I had my Construction team members start building this and working through the night if they could. We had close to 3,000 pack members and we were making it big enough to have all pets, and everyone from the pack.
My construction pack members were also able to put a hidden door in my house for Athena , so if she, the baby, and her father needed to make a run for safety then they could. We knew the war was going to hit, we just had no idea when. Now was the time to prepare and get ready. I was ready with my uncle on the way and I knew we could win. I was making contact with the Lycan King to get help, but I didn't hear anything back. This would be the moment of truth if he showed up or not too.
I told Alpha Ron so he would be ready for a call or something because I told the Lycan King who he could call in the event of not being able to reach me. I Uncle was on his way and they would be here in the morning. They planned on not stopping on my uncles orders and that some sleep on the way while the other drives and then pull over to let the driver sleep and have the passenger drive. I prayed to the moon goddess that we would have out extra help here in time. Some of my patrol team has told me that the rogues are getting restless and have been trying to breach our perimeter but have not made it through very well because they called for back up in every area that they had covered. They were able to capture a rogue in hopes they would talk and tell us what was being planned for the next attack that they had been planning.
