*Present Day*
JD’s phone rang.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Jerry. Don’t bother coming in today. We are closing the office. We’re going to have a cleaning crew come by and deep clean and disinfect the place,” Jerry’s manager, Mr. Travis, said.
“Why?” JD asked.
“Well, Tracy died this morning. I can’t believe I’m even saying this, but we got word this morning of her passing. She was sick last night and didn’t wake up this morning. We don’t know the cause because no doctor has ever seen anything like this before,” Mr. Travis said.
“What? Oh no. Man, I’m sorry to hear that,” JD expressed condolences.
“Yeah, me too. Take care of yourself, Jerry. I’ll let you know when it is safe to come back. It’ll be a few days, honestly. This thing is pretty serious. I guess you were right after all. We should have listened to your videos instead of laughing. See you later.” Mr. Travis hung up the phone.
“What’s wrong?” Lynn asked.
“One of my coworkers died,” JD said.
“What? What happened?” Lynn got attentive.
“They said she got sick last night. When she went to sleep last night, she didn’t wake up. Doctors said they had never seen anything like it. I bet it’s the same thing that the President died from,” JD said.
“That’s scary. Whatever it is, it’s here,” Lynn said.
JD got up and got on his computer. “Yeah, I need to figure out what’s going on.”
He investigated what killed the President and discovered that the virus was called Rubix.
“Why isn’t this more broadcasted? But yet everyone is so hung up on these celebrities' lives.”
JD’s phone rang again.
“Hello?”
“I see you’ve found the Rubix,” Luther said on the other end of the phone.
“Bro, what the hell? Just tell me where you are so I can beat yo ass,” JD yelled into the phone.
“Whoa there. We’re all friends here. We want the same things,” Luther replied.
“What the hell is it that you want?” JD asked.
“To protect everyone here in this great country from tyranny. The tyranny of the government and the tyranny of ignorance. This country is filled with the dumbest, fattest, entitled pieces of shit this world has ever known. The education system is trash. Everyone is so fixated on the lives of the television people. The senseless violence and crime rate are at an all-time high. These people do not value life, so they do not deserve life. Every one of these cretins will be taken out. Join me,” Luther explained.
“You can’t fight evil with evil, bruh,” JD replied.
“And how exactly should you fight it? By praying for them? Huh? Let me tell you something. Even God has given up on this world. It becomes a matter of whether fighting for it is worth as much as leaving it to burn. Why would the creator of the seas, sun, moon, and stars continue to help those who do not want better for themselves? They do not care about their fellow man. No man, woman, or child is safe from a bullet nowadays. They piss on the churches. Hell, even the churches and pastors cannot be trusted. If it isn’t me, then who? Russia? China? Our government? And what are you going to do, JD? I’ll tell you what you’re gonna do. Run,” Luther hung up the phone.
Back at the White House, the President turned the living quarters into a survival base. He ordered various supplies, such as food and water, to be brought in.
“Preparing for a zombie apocalypse, Mr. President?” A White House Employee asked.
“Precisely,” the President smirked.
“Mr. President, you have a call on line 1,” an advisor approached the President.
“Who is it?” President Wyatt asked.
“Sultan, sir,” said the advisor.
The President rolled his eyes. He then proceeded to go to the phone.
“President Wyatt,” he answered.
“Mr. President. Congratulations on your new position. It's a shame what happened to James. He was a fine President,” Sultan said.
“What do you want, Sultan?” President Wyatt said, clearly annoyed.
“President King and the others had an agreement known as Agenda 21. I assume you know it because you were there on the call,” Sultan said.
“Yes, I was. I'm a new president with a new plan. Let me take care of my country, and you take care of yours now, if you’ll excuse me,” President Wyatt said, hanging up the phone.
Sultan and Rusenov were in the same room during the call. “That arrogant little prick. Can we crush them now?” Rusenov asked.
“Let him destroy his own country. He will undoubtedly kill off his citizens. He’s too blinded by power. When there are no civilians to back up the military, that’s when we will strike. The US is a formidable foe indeed, but they will be no match for us as a team,” Sultan said.
“NATO will not allow us to compete against them,” Rusenov replied.
“Then, when the time comes, we shall have our 3rd World War,” said Sultan.
The next night, three tragic events took place. At a movie theater, there was a shooting. A gunman aimed at families watching a kids movie, leaving 10 dead and 15 wounded. A small bombing happened, similar to the one Luther was behind, that caused JD to lose his friend Tony. Lastly, a nightclub was shot up by multiple gunmen. There were not many survivors between the nightclub and bar. The scenes were gruesome, and it left many questioning why these places in Texas were targeted. They’d soon get the answers they were looking for when Luther once again uploaded a video from a page that could not be traced. The video could be watched, but if you clicked on the link to the social media page it was shared from, the page would come back as non-existent.
He wore a mask that parodied the likeness of a former US President.
“Father, forgive me for I have sinned. I am sorry for the little boys and girls who had to lose their lives. You see, I was once an abandoned child thrown in a river because my father couldn’t stand the thought of living with the burdens that he created. The wounds he opened and the pain he caused. He was too much of a coward. Do you know who else are cowards? You are. You people who get on these apps get so brave behind your phone screens that you pander to the admiration of your peers. You do not even live within the confines of reality anymore. Oh yes, my brothers and sisters, I have unlocked the key to prosperity, but unfortunately, not everyone can come along for this joyous occasion. There is a fine line between good and evil. Am I so bad for wanting this piss poor society to be better? Those people’s deaths are on you. Their blood is on your hands. You’ll come together, and you’ll be united. That’s all any one of us ever wanted. Just remember this feeling. When you forget it, I’ll be there to remind you again. Hahahahahaha. Follow the leader.”
Luther ended the video.
As sadistic as he was, he was correct in his assessment. Many nationwide banded together on social media and the internet to raise money for those affected. Prayer groups formed, and churches were packed.
As always, tragedy brings everyone closer together. Then everyone forgets about it, and it’s back to the regularly scheduled programming.
