Luther had emerged again. Editing himself into JD’s video.
“That son of a bitch!” JD was extremely angry.
“How does he know about Ayvah?” Lynn asked.
“He knows everything about me. About us. And I have no idea how or why!” JD stood up and paced.
“What are you thinking?” Lynn asked.
“I need to draw him out or meet up with him,” JD said.
“Are you crazy? That lunatic killed his own dad on live video. What do you think he will do to you?” Lynn asked.
Ayvah walked into their room, rubbing her eyes.
“Hey rugrat, what ya doin’ up?” JD grabbed Ayvah, picked her up, and put her on the bed.
“I can’t sleep. Some guy named Luther in a hockey mask keeps chasing me with a knife. Every time I run away inside our house, the hallway grows bigger,” Ayvah explained.
JD and Lynn looked at each other wide-eyed.
Lynn mouthed the words “what the fuck” silently to JD.
JD tried to make light of the situation for Ayvah. “Has Mommy been having you watch scary movies?”
“No. We watched something yesterday about mommy and daddy people being mad at each other. She kicked him out, but then let him back in at the end,” Ayvah said.
“Jesus Christ,” JD put his hand over his face and shook his head. “I'd rather you watch scary movies.”
“Hey! It was a good movie,” Lynn defended herself.
“No more chick flicks for you, kiddo. Let’s get to bed. You can sleep in here tonight,” JD said. He playfully tackled her on the bed and tickled her. She laughed and giggled.
“Goodnight, Mama. Goodnight dad. Love ya’ll,” Ayvah said.
“Love you too,” both JD and Lynn said in unison.
*Flashback*
“Sorry, little man. I know you didn’t ask to be here. I hope it’s quick,” Aaron said to the baby.
Aaron tossed the baby into the river and ran off.
A man was running on a nearby track when he heard the gunshots. It was dark, only lit by the track lights along the tracks. The man stopped over behind a tree to see what was going on.
He saw Aaron take the baby and throw it into the river. Once Aaron sped off, the man ran as fast as he could to the river to try and save the baby.
He saw the baby miraculously floating above water. Luckily, the river wasn’t moving as much, so the water hadn’t taken the baby far. He could jump in, secure the baby, and swim out of the water with little effort.
“Man, thank God you’re still alive. Nothing short of a miracle. How could that monster do that to you? Such a cute little guy. You didn’t ask to be here,” the man said, talking to the baby as if he could understand him.
He walked over to Sabrina’s car to see what had happened to her. However, he already had a pretty good idea based on the gunshots he heard. She was face down on the steering wheel, dead.
“Man, that monster did a number on you guys. I am so sorry this happened to you,” the man said as he got slightly angry.
He called 9-1-1 to report the murder and what he saw. They arrived with two squad cars, an ambulance, a firetruck, and the coroner.
“What’s your name, sir?” Officer Roshto asked the man.
“My name is Julian Kano, sir.”
“You happen to have any ID on you?” Officer Roshto asked.
Julian patted his pockets and located his wallet. “Oh yea, sure.”
The Officer ran a background check on Julian.
“Thank you, sir. Here’s your ID back. Such a damn shame what happened here. Did you see the victim when she was shot?” Officer Roshto asked.
“No, I heard the shots while I was running. When I heard them, I ducked behind a tree and surveyed what was happening. I did see him toss the baby into the river. I hurried as fast I could to get the baby once he left,” Julian recalled.
“Thank God for you. There could have been two lives lost here tonight. If you don’t mind, we’d like you to come down to the station and give an official statement,” Officer Roshto said.
The baby was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for any injuries, and for his vitals to be checked.
Julian went to the station and gave his statement for the police records. He inquired about possibly adopting the baby after everything was said and done. Julian ended up adopting the baby boy he had once saved. He named him Luther.
