When Ye Chen agreed to attend the class reunion, Xiao Churan reminded him, “Since Wang Daokun’s restaurant is opening, we should prepare a gift. It wouldn’t be appropriate to go empty-handed.”
Ye Chen nodded and said, “I’ll go buy a gift for him tomorrow morning.”
“Alright,” Xiao Churan replied. “I need to go to the Emgrand Group tomorrow morning as well.”
Dong Ruolin, surprised, asked, “You’re going to Emgrand tomorrow? How about I hitch a ride with you afterward? That way, we can go to Wang Daokun’s restaurant together.”
Xiao Churan smiled and said, “Your idea might not work. I don’t have a car—I usually take the bus or a cab. Sometimes Ye Chen gives me a ride on his electric scooter.”
“What?” Dong Ruolin blurted out. “You’re a department director now, and you still don’t have a car?”
Xiao Churan explained, “I haven’t been working for long, and I don’t make much money yet. Ye Chen and I have our expenses, plus I need to give my mom living expenses. After everything, I only save a few thousand yuan a month. How could I afford a car?”
She smiled and added, “Honestly, public transport is pretty convenient. And on nice days, riding Ye Chen’s scooter is not bad at all.”
Dong Ruolin said seriously, “You know, sometimes you need to pay attention to appearances. You’re the director of the Xiao Group and directly handle cooperation with the Emgrand Group. If you don’t even have a car, people might gossip.”
Ye Chen silently agreed.
His wife had always been frugal, and most of her earnings went to her mother. She had been neglecting herself for years.
Meanwhile, her mother, who loved hoarding money, didn’t even think of spending a bit to buy her daughter a car.
With that in mind, Ye Chen decided he would buy a car for Xiao Churan. It would make her daily commute more convenient and help her present a more professional image.
On the way home, the radio in their taxi was buzzing with news about the Shangri-La Sky Garden being booked for a private event.
The host exclaimed, “This is the first time Shangri-La has ever allowed the Sky Garden to be fully booked. What kind of big shot could pull this off?”
Even the taxi driver chimed in, “I bet it’s that TikTok-famous billionaire who bought the jade necklace!”
Although Ye Chen stayed silent, he couldn’t help but feel amazed.
Apparently, news of him booking the Sky Garden had spread like wildfire throughout Jinling.
Early the next morning, Ye Chen headed to the Audi dealership.
He planned to buy Xiao Churan a premium sedan—something practical yet presentable. However, to avoid suspicion, he decided to choose something in the 500,000 yuan range instead of going straight for a Rolls-Royce.
When he arrived at the dealership, he parked his electric scooter outside and walked in.
Inside, a few salespeople noticed him, and one or two were about to greet him. However, a female salesperson smirked and said, “Don’t bother. He came here on an electric scooter. He’s probably just here to enjoy the air conditioning.”
Hearing this, the others lost interest.
Lately, many people had come to the dealership to cool off in the summer heat. Some even sat in the display cars and refused to leave. The staff was tired of dealing with such freeloaders.
Given Ye Chen’s simple attire and arrival on a scooter, he didn’t look like someone who could afford an Audi.
No one came to greet him, but Ye Chen didn’t mind. He walked straight to the section displaying the Audi A6, which ranged in price from 300,000 to over 600,000 yuan. The top-tier model, priced at 618,000 yuan, caught his attention.
It was luxurious yet understated, perfect for Xiao Churan’s needs.
Satisfied with his choice, Ye Chen called out to a salesperson, “Do you have the top-spec A6 in stock? I’d like to buy it and drive it home today.”
The salespeople stared at him as if he were crazy. One of them sneered, “Do you even know how much it costs? Did you forget to add a zero when you checked?”
Ye Chen frowned and replied, “It’s 618,000 yuan. I saw the price clearly.”
The salesperson chuckled disdainfully, “You saw the price and still have the guts to ask? Can you even afford it? Imagine how embarrassing it’ll be when you can’t pay in front of everyone.”
Ye Chen narrowed his eyes and said coldly, “Do you have a problem? Did you forget to take your meds this morning? Want me to call an ambulance for you?”
The salesperson scoffed, “Oh, now you’re pretending to be tough? I swear, if you keep this up, I’ll call security to throw you out. Coming in here just to show off—who do you think you’re fooling?”
