We thought it would be fun to call Mike and Jess, so she dialed in their old numbers. To no one's surprise, the numbers were out of service. But, Tamsin had an idea to try using the area code for Mike's number, and that surprisingly worked. The phone rang, and then a robot voice said to leave a message. We did, not knowing if we were leaving a message for Mike, so we kept it vague. Almost immediately, we received a call back from that number. To our surprise, we were soon talking to Mike. He sounded much older, and he was wheezing, but he managed to get a few words out, "You made it! How are you finding 2025?". Tamsin quickly replied "Confusing, wondrous, and marvelous!". He quickly asked if we could come see him. He was old, had lived his life and was in a nursing home. We asked him how we could get to him, as we barely knew where WE were, let alone how to get to him.. "I'll get you an Uber to me" he stated. I asked what the heck an Uber was, but he just laughed. He said to stay where we were and to check our phone as he would be sending us some info. Soon enough, we were meeting Scott, who took us to see Mark. Apparently, Uber is like a taxi, but you can order it from your phone. I was incredulous at how far we had advanced. We waited in the backseat of Scott's car, while Scott drove. He asked if we minded some music, and if we wanted some water. " Yes, that'd be great" said Tamsin. He gave us some cold water, and started the music. He said it was Classic Rock. Imagine our surprise when we heard music from 1975 playing through his car's speakers. We had fun and a nice conversation. Before we knew it, we had arrived. We walked in and approached the front desk. We announced that we were there to see Mike and signed in. Then, we were escorted to see Mike. After hugs all around, we asked about Jess. He informed us that she had passed away last year. He told us about everything that had happened since we saw him last. I couldn't believe all the stuff he was telling me. There was a global pandemic (something called COVID 19?), and there are electric cars that can drive themselves. We learned that the little rectangular device was so much more than a simple phone. See, there's this thing called the internet, which allows people all over the world to interact with each other. With the greater ease of communication, new ideas about all kinds of things were circulating. Well, you would know all about that, so I won't belabor my point. We chatted with Mike for hours until he fell asleep, then we quietly made our way to the exit.
