Her eyes were searching for a hiding spot, and so were his. She was walking toward the “slide” or whatever it was that lead them here. Byron followed her, while looking around.
Behind the “slide” there were hanging branches with withered leaves from above… She touched the hanging branches, one by one. When she did that, she saw something…
Both of them, carefully shove the branches to both sides. She discovered that there was a cave behind the hanging branches. Who would have thought? It was well hidden. They quickly went inside and left the branches how they found them.
The footsteps only came closer… and closer. She tried to peak through the branches and saw a masculine formed person dressed in all black. Holding a knife. Standing still. Observing. Listening. Trying to find them. She clearly didn’t know for sure if that was a man or a woman, but what she knew was that, that person was dangerous.
Byron pulled her away from the branches and into his arms where she felt safe, unlucky for them, a sound was made by accident when they collided into what seemed like a hug. And it echoed in the cave, slowly spreading that sound like a disease.
The unknown person with the knife looked in their direction as panic and fear spread quickly through Maya’s and Byron’s bodies. The person slowly walked towards them until another sound was made, coming from the opposite direction. The person dressed in all black quickly turned around and ran towards the unknown sound. Most likely eager to catch that poor person who made that unfortunate sound.
And just like that the dangerous person was gone, and Maya and Byron were safe, for now.
“That was close…” Maya whispered after letting out a deep sigh.
“Yeah, we have to be careful, we don’t know what kind of danger we’re in or who we’re dealing with.” Byron whispered back, letting out a sigh as well.
“But where do we go now? What do we do? We don’t know anything about this creepy place… or this dangerous person. Will we even survive this nightmare?” She kept talking hopelessly as she looked down and her eyes were filling up with tears.
“I don’t know… but I promise that we will find a way out of this nightmare… together.” He said while lifting her chin up then look her in the eyes, trying his best to comfort her with his warm smile. Giving her a glimpse of hope. Even in the dark his eyes are full of light, which over shines all lights and that made her pull herself together. Now more than ever. She’s so ready to get the hell out of here.
“Thank you, Byron. I needed to hear that.” She whispered with gratitude, while thinking about that moment he looked into her eyes with a smile so warm, it gave her butterflies. Bad timing, but it’s nice to feel something other than fear and loneliness.
“Always…” He whispered as he kind of blushed as well.
“It’s quiet… maybe we should keep going? Search for a way out…” Maya whispered to Byron as she looked through the hanging branches with leaves that hid them safely in this cave.
But unfortunately, they have to move while they still can. Byron nodded and agreed to what Maya said, they are on the same page after all.
So they quietly came out of the cave that saved their lives. Looked around, only to find two exits, one of them being the “slide”, the other one being the way the psychopath ran off to. Which way should we go?
