I stand at the walls of the city. They are closing up like giant maws. The gates are being sealed. And after a few moments, the walls began to overflow. The waters carried bodies, buildings, belongings, branches. They fell in slow motion and crashed onto the ground, crushing those who were too scared to move.
We tried to run for the hills but, they too, were soon swallowed up. I saw the powerlines give out. The massive metal towers I looked so fondly at as a child were now starting to heave under the water's flow. As inches of water turned to feet and carried me away with the current, I could have sworn I caught a glimpse of the same man from earlier holding his wife under a sturdy oak. I felt a sense of comfort in that moment but, it was then swept away with everything else. My mind became fluid. I didn't know where the tide was taking me. I became submerged over and over again, for what felt like days, until my almost unconscious mind slammed against a surface that jolted me awake. It was cold to the touch, sleek and slippery. I peered through it to see a single man, sipping a glass of wine and taking a bite of bread.
