We were at the mercy of a man filling Basalis up like a glass under a tap; with a man who is too thirsty for being a martyr. The people had no say. They were to die under his and the machine's word. All we could do is attempt to flee. Feeling overwhelmed and starting to feel the rain on my cheeks, I slipped into an alleyway to see two men tearing out the limbs off a police Android. It was mouthing it's protocols for them to cease.
"Keep clear of the way ~bzzt~ pedestrians, or you will be held accountable-" The man's bloodied fist was slamming into the Android's face repeatedly, while the other frailer man tried to hold him back.
"Clyde, just leave it! The waters will get to him soon!"
"Get off me! If I want to beat the living shit out of some robot pig, then let me have my dying wish!" He whipped around and glared at his friend. "Unless, you'd like to be my next dead weight, eh, Derek?"
"N-no! Just-"
"And what difference does it make? You're gonna die anyways, too," Clyde shouted and threw the Android's arm down the alley. It skid to a halt just mere inches away from me. "one more slip up and I'll make sure the flood doesn't kill you." I sprinted away from them.
The end brings out the worst in us. Inhibitions, dreams and manners are all thrown to the wind. Whist I saw men beating Androids, men beating men, people fighting for vehicles, food, shelter, I turn to see the entrances of our once great city. The walls covered in murals, whose message was clear to the people who created them: give and love and be kind. Now they are stained with the sins of the elite and the scrawled messages of the oppressed. They do not matter anymore.
I made my way outside the city walls with the rush of others fleeing past me. I look up and see the clouds get heavier, pouring their great weight into the city. I hear voices shout above the storm.
"They say that it's not just Basalis, it's Hypernia too! And even Thalos!"
"How can that be? The announcement was only made here! We were the first ones to hear it!"
"Make your way over to the next city, please try and tell us if it's the same everywhere!"
"Is the whole world coming to an end? Did we do something wrong?"
"The many shall suffer the sins of the one!"
