I stepped to my left and bumped into an angry, young man. His eye festered with pain and rage all at the same time.
"Watch it," he bellowed towards me, as he slipped into the sea of people, like a water drop into a full bucket. The streets were starting to overflow into some buildings' balconies. Some wanting to watch the event from up high. It felt like we were like swine, packed into the small corridors of boulevards and avenues. A sheet of heavy clouds lingered over the towering powerlines that led into and away from the city. Can I remember the name? No. Not even if you dug it out of my mind...
I stood next to an older man and his wife. They half smiled at me and asked me my name.
"186247, sir." The old man laughed.
"No, none of that, my dear. What is your name?"
"I can't remember." He nodded in solemnity and his wife looked away at some farther object. After a few moments of looking at the clouds, the old man turned to me again.
"Would you like one?" My eyes were glazed at that very moment, not sure whether to look at him or the loudspeaker towering above us. It was corroded and the parts that had fallen off were repaired with some new shinier material.
"With all due respect, I don't think it would matter. We all don't matter."
"Well, if the end is truly near at the hands of this... this Influencer! Then I think it's about high time you have a right to a name, young lady!" I just stood there, staring at the siren like an idiot. I glanced at him holding his wife's hand.
"Then, sure maybe it could be-" I was cut off harshly by the tone of an announcement. The siren had roared to life and it was screeching. We knew it all too well. The daily tasks for today. The weather. The Special day of the month. The morning cast telling us what leader criticized another leader. But the tone following was different- It wasn't the dismissal after the events nor was it the monotone presence of an android voice. It was a man's voice, steeped in years of work and pride.
"Good morning, people of Basilis. Today is a bit different of a routine than you are used to."
Silence washed over the masses like a wave cause by a stone.
"Today is the day Genesis-7 will be enacted."
