Audrey just finished her third glass within a short time and as she looked to the side she let her glass slide, because the girl in the photo on her wall blinked.
“Photo?” What do you mean with this word and who blinked.?” Rousseau asked. “Is it that, why you dropped your glass?” Audrey looks at him and says in a drunk voice: “Did I say that loud?” He replies: “of course, otherwise I would have not asked you, why you said that. Well, the glass was empty and because of the carped, it is still in a whole piece, I think you had enough. Whatever you are talking about.” “I,….never mind”. Audrey looked at the wall and there was it again, although it is a painting of playing children, the girl who faces into the room just blinked at her. As she tries to wrap her mind about the things which happened in the past few hours, she did not even realised, that the doctor started to stich her wound on her forehead. She only realised it that something was happening, as he already put the bandage around her head. “Alright now, I would say, this shall do.” Said the Doctor and continued. “Now I also need a drink.” “Of course Doc.” Rousseau takes the glasses, he did not use until now and fills them. One he hands to the doctor, which he takes with a “Thank you.”, the other one he takes for himself. After the doctor took a big sip he says: “Alright Mr. Rousseau. It looks like you are not that safe here anymore, as you once were. Do you have another place to hide?”
“Of course doc, we have, but should we not wait, until the wound is better healed?” Now some snoring comes from the bed. Rousseau looks at her and a little smirk is on his face. The doc looks at him and says: “I see, you love her.” “Yes doc, I do. So what about the wound?” “Well, I rather would have her nearby, that I am sure, the wound does not get infected, but I really would say, you should pack some belongings and go to your other place, because the Jacobines just get more and more nuts.” “You are right doc, do you want to know, where we are going?” “Don’t get me wrong Mr. Rousseau, but how less I know, the better it is. For all with mad people like the Jacobines. At first, I thought, that a revolution would be good, but what it turned to be now, is hard to describe. You hardly can trust anyone anymore.” Now he is whispering “I was wondering how they have known, that here is a house. Can the housemaid be trusted?” Meanwhile Audrey’s snoring gets more intense. Both men are looking at her and Rousseau only says: “Stunning!” Then he looks at the doctor again and says: “Constance lost 2 siblings to the jacobines, she is the last one, who would betray us. I am sure, they either followed us from the town, or they found this house by accident, as they were on the way to the town. They might have seen the light which came through the fog.” “Did you ask her, if she remembers, when the attack happened?” “No, I did not had any time to ask her anything. It took ages, until she even got up. I think she was already unconscious before I came in and as she stood there in the door, she looked at me, like she saw a ghost. We went inside and as she hold the lamp more up, I saw this nasty wound.” The doctor nods and says: “Hmm, anyways it is hard to tell. Well, I would say, that you come with me, get some stuff you need, so it also does not look too suspicious and rent a carriage at the post station. You really have to leave as soon as possible.” Rousseau replies: “You are right, we should start the journey, so long it is bright daylight. I will gather what we need and put it in a trunk so I only have to load it, when I am back. If you stay so long in here, I would be very grateful.” The doctor replies: “Of course Mr. Rousseau. It’s my pleasure. “ Audrey turns around in her sleep and Rousseau leaves the room, leaving the door open. Soon he is heard, talking to Constance, who helps him packing everything, so that he is faster. The doctor goes to Audrey and puts his hand on her face, to feel, if she might start to get some fever. He goes back to the chair and now, as the sun breaks through the clouds, he sees how nice and bright this room is. He is looking at everything carefully as suddenly he looks down at one of the “wardrobe” . He sees a pair of boots through the door of the wardrobe, but did not recognise that design at all. He looks a bit further up and a strange piece of fabric with very strange greenish colours are seen, he gets up of the chair as Rousseau returns to the room. “Everything alright doc?” “Well, I was seeing something at the wardrobe over there, but I guess it was a trick at the eye.” The other men replies: “I am sure it was doc. I got you early out of bad today.” “You indeed did. Let’s head back to the village.” He checks a last time on Audrey and soon both men are leaving the house in the carriage of the doctor. As soon as the men left, Constance is taking the glasses the bottles and the table downstairs. Washes them and puts it away and returns into Audrey’s room with her sawing kid. To her surprise, she sees, that Audrey is awake, staring at a painting on the wall. “Are you alright Ma’am?” Audrey does not reply. “Ma’am?” Without looking at her she says: “This photo is getting me nuts!” Constance looks irritated at Audrey and replies: “Photo Ma’am? What you mean with that word?” “The painting, I mean the painting of course.” “What is wrong with the painting Ma’am?” “That blond girl with the curls is blinking from time to time.” “The girl in the painting is blinking? Ma’am I think either you got too much Cognac or your head is more in destress, as we might have thought.” “You really don’t see it?” “Alright, I will get a bit closer and have a look Ma’am.” After a few seconds Audrey says: “There! It just happened again.” “Sorry Ma’am, I really did not see anything like that.” Turning around to Audrey. “You really need to rest Ma’am. Such an injury is not a joke.” She looks a bit sad at Constance and replies: “I guess you are right. Just a stupid imagination.” She turns around and soon sleeps away again. Constance soon sits in one of the chairs and starts with her work on some fabric.
It was past lunchtime as horses and a carriage could be heard. Soon the door opens and Rousseau went in. Constance was just finished with her work at the kitchen and he goes into the kitchen. “Did Olympe wake up in between?” “Sir indeed, she did, but something weird happened.” “What was it?” “She thinks that one of the girls in the paintings blinks.” “Hmm, maybe she got some fever.” “I thought that too, but she seems to be fine.” “Then the Cognac might have been too much. She hardly drinks in general.” “I know Sir. It was just so odd, because she was so convinced about it. Do you need help Sir?” “Maybe with the smaller suitcase, the bigger stuff I put on the carriage myself.” “Alright Sir.” Both are putting the items into their place. Soon he goes up to Audrey’s room. She seem to be in a deep sleeping phase again. He glances through the room, and goes to the wardrobe. He opens one of the doors and stares at the items in front of him. There are boots with a design he never saw before and something which looks like a uniform, but he could not put it to any army he knows. He also finds a strange pistol in it and some items which seems to be the bullets of this strange pistol. “Jesus, what the hell,…” he suddenly hears from the background. He turns around and Audrey is getting up from her bed. Steps are heard from downstairs, running upstairs. Rousseau looks irritated. “So you know what that is?” Audrey looks uncomfortable. “Well, do be honest, I do, but I do not know, how to tell you. May I? I want to have a look if something else is there.” Rousseau hands the items over. With the clothes, also the holder with her Glock as well as her badge. “It seems like, I came in with this uniform on.” “Uniform? Are you in an army? What weird weapon is this?” “First of all, I just realised, that I never heard your first name.” “You do not remember my first name?” “Mr. Rousseau, I do not know, what is going on myself, but my name is not Olympe.” “Come on Mon Cherie, what are you talking about?” Audrey opens the badge, reads it at first herself, just to be sure and then hands it over to Rousseau. While doing it, she says: “I have no explanation, what happens here and why I am here, with that wound on my head, but this is me.” At this strange thing Rousseau could read: Lieutenant Audrey McLeod. He also reads, that her birthday is on 15th of April 1985. He soon drops it and steps back. He looks at her and says, that is not possible, we have now 179….. !” “What?” Audrey says, “that is indeed impossible!” Soon a kind of bang is heard. Both are looking to the door, where Constance lies at the floor. “That might have been too much for her”, Audrey says, puts the items in her hands on the end of the bed and walks to her. “Not only for her,” The men replies. Rousseau follows her and helps her, putting Constance on the chair. There was still a bowl with water on a table and Audrey splashes some into Constance face, who soon opens her eyes again. “I guess we all have to get used to it, because I have absolutely no clue, how I ended up here. What is weird though, this house looks in many ways very similar to mine, but I never lived in France! Do I have a terrible accent?” “No, not at all, you do not sound like a foreigner! By the way, I do have a first name. It is Pierre.” Oh, Pierre. Sounds really nice.” “Well, it is a very common first name here in France.” “Still, I like it. But still do not know, what happened to your friend. Do you think she is in my timeline? I hope not, because, that would be even more terrible, then me being here.” “So in this case, you come from the future?” “Yes.” “How is this, with the French Revolution ending?” “Depends on which side you are I guess. Robespierre was getting very violent.” “Getting? I would say, we are in the middle of it.” “So it is the time, where you rather say nothing, otherwise,…..” Pierre only nods with his head. Constance just sits there with her mouth open, staring at Audrey. “Well, I can tell you, for him, it does not end really good.” “So he loses?” “Yes, because he is turning against all around him, he loses all.” Constance starts to smile. “Really?” Audrey nods with her head. “I do not give you the exact time, but I can tell you, that in the near future, the suffering through him will end.” Constance even starts more to smile. Audrey looks at Constance and says: “I hope you keep that for you.” “Ma’am, who the hell would believe me, if I would tell people, that I met someone from the future, who told about the ending of the French Revolution?” Audrey looks at her and says: “Well you are right, they would have a hard time to believe you.” “Exactly, but knowing that, I see a silver lining now.” Pierre has again the weapon in his hand an tries to figure it out. “It looks so strange, from those I know. Seems like, there aren’t real bullets anymore? How you fill it?” Audrey takes it and release the magazine, then puts it back where it belongs. “It is full, I have at least two more magazines with me, when this one is empty. I cannot show you, how we put the bullets in, which are not round anymore, as you know them from your time, because in this case, they are already in, but I can assure you, that there are 15 shots in each. Makes it together 45. Unfortunately, humans make more deadly weapons, than you have now. Sometimes I wonder, if we are that modern, because it seems like, we have even more deadly conflicts in my timeline.” Audrey looks out at the window and says. “The shadows are getting longer. We should leave soon, if we still want to travel in daylight.” Pierre follows her sight to the window and says: “At least it seems like, that you still have such skills in your timeline.” “Not all anymore Pierre, but there are still some more skilled in “reading” the sun, and weather in general, but not all anymore.” “I see.” Audrey takes her modern uniform, but keeps wearing Olympe clothes, which fits her very well. All are going downstairs to the carriage and get on it. Soon they are at the entrance of the town, where they shortly stop and let Constance walk into the town, while the two on the carriage are heading on to their new hiding.
