The other common factor was that the mice had been chased, teased, injured and damaged by cats, before being dragged in through a dirty flappy thing and then released in a strange environment to be pinned down, flung around and giggled at, until sometimes managing to find a refuge behind a radiator or under the furled corner of a rug.
