During junior college I would write for the City Times at San Diego City College, and then I would get my associate's degree in electronics from ITT Technical Institute. My first job was a tester for a manufacturer of function generators, and that's when I would buy my first Amiga computer. I was able to create a lot of songs with my Amiga, contributing over 600 songs in AMINET.
The IHD Amiga User Group was a pivotal part of my creative journey. It was founded by my good friend, Paul Courville, who was not only a talented musician but also a visionary in bringing together like-minded individuals. Paul and I shared a passion for music, and we often collaborated using a program called Music Editor, or MED for short, which was a popular music tracker program at the time.
In one of our IHD User Group meetings, Paul and I would demonstrate MED. Paul would start first by sharing some of his songs. Then I would demonstrate how I create a drum track and then a bass track.
My brother Gary, a skilled graphic artist, was also a key member of the group. Alongside him, several other Amiga enthusiasts contributed their talents, ranging from low-level programming to pioneering Internet access. The synergy within the group was incredible, and we decided to showcase our collective talents by organizing a big show.
One of the most memorable projects during this period was my collaboration with a lady named Meredythe. She led a group of children known as THE RECYCLE KIDS, who were dedicated to promoting environmental awareness. Using my music arrangement skills, we created performances for the group, culminating in a special presentation at the Earth Day Expo held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This event was a testament to the power of creativity and collaboration, and it remains one of the highlights of my involvement with the IHD Amiga User Group.
For a while Gary and I would have a videomaking business. We would be able to edit a few doctor's videos, a funeral, a wedding, and video projects involving high school kids.
