That Monday Arleen was signed up to work a double. 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The doors open at 8 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. cleaning usually takes an hour after close to finish. She'd be home by fifteen after 10. The day passed by slowly, the night was more fast paced like what she needed to keep out of her busy head.
She was more reserved that night or guarded with her customers. She still wore the same smile but her focus was elsewhere, she wasn't as talkative tonight as she usually was with her regulars and new customers.
She eyed everyone in the restaurant with what information she knew about them bouncing around in her mind. She was looking for anyone or anything to stand out that might be a lead to what happened to her two weeks ago.
After a long and tiring shift, Aren't alerts the cook and a bus not she was done with the closing chores. They had to use the new buddy system put in place by her boss, efforts to make sure everyone got home safe were to priority. The cook and a bus boy walked her out to her car. One holding the restaurant doors open keeping eyes on the other two, as they made their way across the parking lot to Arleen's purple Kia. She thanks Carlos and watches him head back inside. After the doors shut and both men she worked with were safely back inside, she reversed her KIA. As she presses on the brakes she next shifts the drive shaft into Drive and heads home.
Carla was off tonight and was home making supper for the two of them. She made shrimp Alfredo with bread sticks and a Greek salad mix to begin with. Arleen was starving, and so happy to be home. As she changed and washed up for dinner Carla had set the table up for them to get what they wanted and then sir to enjoy this meal together. They chose to sit on the couch and put a movie on. "Nothing to scary, I'm still having nightmares." Arleen told Clara. They settle on some new romantic comedy that was thought to be something to lift their spirits. The house quoted as the movie credits began The production company was one they both recognized so they were certain the movie would be enjoyable. Both women fell asleep on the couch snuggled up under their blankets. Arleen jumps awake, "Are the doors locked?" She jumps to her feet to check. She didn't lock the door behind her. She was frozen in fear at the thought of not locking their door behind her when she returned from work. She was mortified. Someone could have broken in she not only put herself in danger she endangered Clara as well. She locks it fervently and makes her way back to the couch. "Hey Clara," she nudges her roommate awake. "We fell asleep but the movie is over now, if you want to go get in bed. I think I'll stay on the couch tonight." "Oh, the movie is over? Okay, yeah I'll go lay down I'll see you tomorrow."
Arleen. Couldn't stop glancing back at their front door. She would have to be more careful not to make anymore mistakes like that. She was still unsure what happened to her and who for that matter did this to her. She reassures herself by saying, "Well they could have killed me and didn't. So maybe I'm not in anymore danger. I'm off tomorrow and curious to see what the day brings. She tucks herself in on the couch with her covers. She's wrapped up tightly in her night robe and she soon falls into a deep sleep like state stirring awake occasionally just to glance at the front door. "No, it's locked.." she tells herself before falling into a deep sleep. Clara had the morning shift at Bruckey's Diner. Arleen slept through her roommate getting ready and leaving. She was tired after that double and still recovering from the attack. She wakes to a note taped to the wooden table in front of her.
Have a good day, call if you need me. I'm off at 4. She sets the note back down and picks up the to remote. Some music while I get some coffee going and a shower. She starts a pot of Coffee and plays Too Sweet by Hozier she dances softly through the living room she picks out an outfit for the day. She lays it on the bathroom counter and starts the hot water. Slipping off her night robe, underwear and tank top she climbs into the shower. Arleen let's the hot water run over her body and face. She holds her face and head under the water for a few moments and contemplated spending the whole day in this relaxing and perfect hot shower.
She let the water run over her hair once more and then turned the knobs to shut the water off. She climbed out of the tub and grabbed her towel to begin drying off. "What a refreshing shower," she thinks to herself. Walking out of the bathroom she grabs her clothes and sets them on her bed. She drops her towel once behind her bedroom door and began getting dressed.
