“Mom! mom!” but no answer had come except the sound of someone wearing sneakers shuffling their feet across the floor as I got to the top of the staircases. I lifted the metal bat up and put both my hands on the bat as I wrapped my fingers firmly around the handle of the bat gripping tightly ready to hit something that’s not human. Following the sound, I braced myself. I felt my anxiety building with tension, excitement and fear all at once. I came to the first door so ready and fired up but instead, what I saw made all my senses back down. Knowing the back of this person I reached out to mom and I called to her, “mom” as she had already turned at the sound of my voice and tears rolled down her cheeks. “Mom it’s okay I’m here it will be alright.” I said lovingly with a calming voice towards my mom, being strong for her, while signing to her out of habit. Then I gave her a look of confusement I was about to speak to her when she spoke up. With a great smile on Elsie's face she bravely spoke “Yeas Melody, I can hear you!” while continuing to smile calmly. Elsie and Melody shared a happy smile and almost forgot that the world was under attack, until... Just then both Elsie and Melody turn their heads to a loud bang coming from downstairs. I know both of us heard it, my hearts almost stopped, we both looked at each other and saw great fear on our faces for it. I gripped that bat again ready for anything and we both spoke unexpectedly and, in a whisper, together saying while I signed to mom. “We should go! “We made our way out of the bathroom door area and down the stairs quietly. I said to mom handing her the keys, “mom please go start the car and hurry.” As I signed it to her out of habit, she ran to the open house door and out to start the car. I was on my way out when it saw me from the kitchen. That same killer creature no longer making a mess but charging at me like before it was running at me, I couldn’t run there was no time with the speed it had acquired it would have pin me down and probably kill me! So, I stood my ground and smacked that beast hard, and I continued to beat it down on the ground, but it was only knocked out. So, I then looked up to see mom with a shocked and proud look on her face, I spoke realizing mom was back. “Mom my car,” out of habit again I had signed as I was speaking to her. “Yes, I started it like you asked me also there’s no need to sign to me anymore.” As I was about to speak up the creature thing began its heavy breathing. Its breath was heavily panting as if to start itself back up. It had startled mom and I, so I quickly said. “We should go before it wakes.” I keep the bat with me as we walk out to my car, mom got into the passenger side of my car and I was about to drive as I sat my butt down in the car I pulled the bat into the back behind the seat, I then shut the driver side door and started to drive away from mom’s house. We drive for a while, passing empty houses, some smoked and some fine. Some cars were even on fire, we came up to 2nd street almost hitting the main part of town. I look up into the sky and I start to see a giant ship hovering over many buildings in the distance and small spy-like ships that look like tinier versions of the metal killing creatures. They flew across the sky shooting houses and other things in the distance. Melody starts up vocalically. “It looks like it's hovering over the downtown area.” “Melody, I think you're right.” Elsie responds. While Melody continued in her thoughts. At that same time, I noticed the dark clouds had faded and the sun had come out, so the big ship was more noticeable. Melody then spoke, allowed to Elsie referring to the giant ship but gets distracted by a house that’s burning and an interesting surprise that was awaiting, being muffled out by the sound of spy drones shooting in the distance, the crackling of a house fire. Melody exasperated before she went back to her thoughts. “I wonder why their moth…” I said as I turned my head to the right, noticing a car seat sitting right outside the door of the house and as mom was about to say something shaken her head, I had cut her off. “You have got to be kidding me. I hope to God I’m seeing this wrong!” Mom says to me, “what honey, what is it?” as I pulled off to the right and parked right outside the house. I put the car in the park and left it running. Storming out of the car leaving the door of the car open Melody made her way to the house. As she got closer  to the carseat the cries got louder and louder. So, I started to run, focused on that baby, I got to the door of the house, and I knelt to the baby and then stood above the baby, looked into that house and yelled, “are you serious, who the hell leaves a newborn baby outside when the world is under attack! What kind of parents are…” I stopped speaking as the next thing I knew was a little boy had peeked himself out and around the wall with one giant sharp pair of scissors. I spoke softly, confused. “Hey” as I knelt calmly and heard my mother say my name in the distance, but I didn’t respond back. I kept my focus on the boy and newborn. “Where are your parents?” I said calmly to the boy who was between the age of four and five years old and he responded back incredibly sad and almost crying towards me. “Mom and dad were packing our stuff up in the van when one of the monsters flying a spaceship blasted the car along with mom and dad next to it, I tried to pull my baby brother in the house but the car seat was too heavy so I tried to unbuckle him but it wouldn’t budge so that’s when I went to go get scissor to cut him out but then you came yelling.” I looked over to my right and finally saw the spot where his parents died. As Melody responded back, she grabbed the scissors from the boy and placed them on the cement. “I’m so sorry sweetie, how old are you?” he responds sadly with his fingers. “Five.” Mom had come up beside me at this time and we shared a look of sadness with one another I responded back immediately after “oh, no I’m sorry this has happened um…come with me I’m not going to leave you and your baby brother here by your self’s that would be wrong, it not safe.” As I picked up the newborn baby boy in his car seat and noticed he had fallen asleep, I went to reach for the boy’s hand, and he had spoken softly but firmly as he pulled me back. “Wait, my big sister left a while ago after dad brought mommy back from the hospital today. They got into a fight with my big sister and didn’t want to leave even though the monsters were attacking us, she’s been gone awhile she doesn’t know mom and dad are gone.” My mother nods right beside me. We both gave another look of sadness for this family; I spoke up to the boy with my hand still out for him to take a hold once more.
