DepartingEva opened her eyes with the morning sun as it shone across the wasteland, wiping the sleep from her eyes, she looked over to see Izzy still sleeping. She got to her feet and grabbed a small pile of kindling and threw it on the smoldering embers which then ignited and then went to wake Izzy. “Come on squirt, time to get up. We got a long day ahead of us and I would like to reach the forbidden desert before night fall,” she said as Izzy sat up and rubbed her eyes. Over the next hour they cleaned up and had something to eat, Eva was loading the last of her gear into her speeder when Otto came up to her. “I guess this will be the last time I see you around here,” he said as he ran his arm across his nose. Eva looked up at the big man and smiled and then held out her hand. Otto looked at her with a big smile and took her hand in his which swallowed it and pulled her into a hug, “You have been the nicest person around here and I always looked forward to seeing you, it will be sad to see you leave,” he said as he released Eve from his embrace. She could see the tears in his eyes when he handed a box to her. “I have been working on this for a long time and I finally have it working. I want you to have it, it will be a significant help to you,” he said as he laid the box in front of her. Eve looked at him as Izzy came over and opened the box. “What is it?” she asked. Eve looked at Otto who now had a big smile on his face. “I was going to sell it to one of the big shipping companies, but I think you could have better use of it. I see you are still trying to figure out what it is. It is a one-of-a-kind radar that I can mount quickly to your speeder, it will detect anything around you for five hundred yards and as you get closer it will tell you what it is. You have been a good supplier and a good friend; I will miss you dearly. So, please accept this from me.” Eva looked at Otto and embraced him once again and told him that they would accept his gift and he went to work right away installing it on her speeder. After showing her how to use the radar Otto said his goodbye as Eve helped Izzy get on board the scooter then climbed aboard as well.Eve smiled as the wind picked up because she would not have to use the electric motors and the solar panels would keep the batteries charged in case she needed them. Izzy came over and sat down beside her as she looked at the map. “Where are we going?” she asked, and Eve pointed at a barren place on the map, “Right here. It is the border of the forbidden desert, but first we must cross the wasteland,” she said, and Izzy looked like she was terrified. “Do not worry squirt, I will not let anything happen to you,” she said as she hugged her. With the wind filling the sails the scooter lurched forward and soon the scrapyard was well behind them as they travelled through the wasteland.&nbsp;
