“I hear you told Mom and Dad about your second child…” Daniel spoke as he attempted to lull one of his twin boys to sleep.
“It was a mess.” Tanya said with a smile as she thought of her parent's expressions as she had told them of ‘little Charlie,’ her son. The tears in their eyes when they saw their other grandchild in the photos she had eventually shown them.
“Must have been quite the sight.” Daniel said as he placed his kid beside his twin brother who was sleeping with his other child sprawled asleep on his chest.
Tanya gazed at the sight of sleeping twins and responded, “Quite the sight indeed.”
Daniel smiled, knowing fully well that she was talking about the sight of his twin brother with his twins around him, “I also heard you have a date with your Secret Santa later in the day.”
Tanya groaned and then smiled, “Seems like Bertha had been here earlier.”
“Actually, no. She left to take care of David’s kids back at the hospital immediately after she had left your office.” Daniel said as he looked down at the sleeping David, his twin brother.
“Could you accompany me, big brother?”
“Nope!” Daniel replied immediately. “I have quite a lot on my hands as it is.”
As he watched his sister panic and fidget, Daniel stood up and walked over to the walk-in closet. Pulling out a big box, he managed to close the closet and head back to his sister with it.
“What’s this?” Tanya asked hesitantly.
“It’s safe.” Daniel answered as he placed the box on the bed, right in front of Tanya. Placing a hand over Tanya’s, Daniel spoke, “You’ll be fine. And if you feel even a bit of discomfort, you have my number on speed dial.”
“Don’t wait till you’ve collapsed in a puddle of your blood before you call.” Daniel said with sunken eyes as he spoke to his little sister. The image kept invading his mind. Before he could even…
Warm hands overlapped his and a serene voice invaded his thoughts, “Brother, thank you. I’m fine. I’ll be fine.”
Daniel looked at the smile on the face of his little sister, and reassurance like never before flooded his chest. “Tanya…”
“This gift is also from my Secret Santa, isn’t it?” Daniel nodded at the sudden question.
“You know them, don’t you?”
Daniel smiled at the question before he answered, “Well, they’re your secret Santa, aren’t they?”
