“An unexpected gift from a secret Santa arrived a couple of minutes ago.” Bertha said as she walked into the room unannounced.

Tanya lifted her gaze from her work desk and trained it on her sister. She seemed better even after just undergoing a C-section a couple of days past.

“A secret Santa?” Tanya asked a bit confused. She didn’t participate in any event that had led to her being gifted with anything by a secret Santa. A thought crossed her mind and her eyes flashed.

Holding the rectangular box in one hand with a mysterious smile, Bertha continued, “I think you should take a look.”

Tanya observed her sister for a bit before she broke out a sigh, “We can’t risk it. Throw it out.”

“What?” Bertha breathed out in shock. “Without even opening it to see what might be inside?”

Tanya lifted her eyes from the desk once more and stared at her sister with a gaze that seemed to ask if she had grown two heads, “Are you dumb? Why would you open something that you didn’t even buy?”

Bertha took a seat right in front of her sister and stared at her nonchalantly working behind the desk without saying her any mind.

“Tanya…” Despite seeing no response, Bertha continued, “Is it because of what happened back then?”

Tanya pursed her lips in an attempt to not bite it but she still bit the soft part of her mouth to prevent any tears.

“Tanya…” Bertha called out softly, but Tanya didn’t budge and still kept her teary eyes fixated on the sprawled papers on her desk.

“I’m fine.” Tanya finally said. “And so is our brother.” Bertha added as she stood up to hug the woman behind the desk.

“So take a break and stop worrying about the past. Just live in the now, okay?” Tanya nodded a bit as she sobbed gently into the bosom of her younger sister who held her ever so gently.
