Pappy Gideon's old shirt, a soft, plaid blue hue, Was stitched right beside Grandma Lucy’s bright yellow, and new. A sunflower dress scrap, still sunny and bright, Held warmth and held stories from morning till night. There was Patsy Ann's green floral, a small, vibrant square, And my ruby red blouse, saved with meticulous care. As she guided the needle through each tiny spot, She'd speak of the memories that each precious scrap brought. She'd show me the remnants, the cloth worn and thin, The moment and laughter where the fabric had been. A comfort she made, stitched deep in the fold, A beautiful memory more precious than gold. A lifetime of loving was worked in each stitch, A gift far too perfect, no wealth can enrich.The threads are all tied, the final thought true, Memories are the best gifts of all.
