Synopsis
"Jacques Futrelle: The Last Story" is a historical fiction piece centered on the real-life mystery writer, Jacques Futrelle, and his wife, Lily, as they sail home to America aboard the luxurious RMS Titanic. Futrelle carries with him a briefcase containing his most valuable asset: the final manuscripts for his popular detective series. Amidst the conviviality of first-class society, where they socialize with figures like Colonel John Jacob Astor and Molly Brown, an emotional tension builds as Lily worries about the security of the precious stories.
The story chronicles the quiet, devastating shift from Edwardian hubris to terror as the ship strikes ice, and explores the final, heroic moments shared between couples as they face the "women and children first" protocol. The narrative focuses on the lasting legacy of a writer and the seemingly impossible way one of his final works was preserved against the overwhelming odds of the North Atlantic disaster.
