Wake in the silence

I feel the air drifting from the room

I hear the wind pounding against the windows

The crickets chirping outside the door

I see the shadows

Yet there is one I've never seen before

I imagine it could be from a tree

Casting on the ceiling

Dancing in the breeze

I imagine how free It would be

What if I were a tree?

I'd have gods beautiful creatures climbing all over me

Squirrels playing on my branches going up high

A bird in a nest teaching her babies to fly

My roots growing deep inside the ground

Squirrels hinding nuts nowhere to be found.

I imagine a cat climbing and scared to come down

Or a pinata tied on me with children and a dancing clown

I think of how strong I would be

A couple in love carving their initials on me

Or the leaves I grow to shelter those from the sun

A tire swing for children to laugh and have fun

A wind blowing upon my leaves

Feeling the freedom of a perfect breeze

Yet one thing I would hate to say

Is the time they come and chop me away.

I snap back to reality

Realize I wouldn't want to be a tree
