Liz approached the street where a guy who had been cuffed was sitting on the curb, yelling.
"I didn't do anything wrong! Since when is it a crime to walk around at night?" The guy yelled at the police officers.
"Is this the guy who was outside our house, Officers?" Liz asked, glaring at the seated young man.
"We think so, Ma'am. If you have a doorbell camera or any other kind of surveillance, that would confirm it." A young, female officer with the nametag Watts replied.
"I do! Hang on!" Liz pulled out the phone in her pocket and tapped the screen until she got to the doorbell camera app. "Yep, there he is!" Liz handed her phone to Officer Watts.
Clear images of the young man standing outside the house, yelling up toward Jeannie's room, danced across the screen.
"That's him, guys. Let's take him in." Watts turned toward the other officers and jerked her head toward the offender.
"Who is this guy?" Liz asked. "Is his name Jesse?"
"This gentleman's name is Brandon Edwards. Do you know him?" Watts asked.
"No, but my daughter might."
"Your daughter is the one who called, right? Can we talk to her?"
"Of course!" Liz led Watts to the house while two other officers formally arrested Brandon Edwards.
---
"No, I don't know him," Jeannie said after Watts asked her about Brandon Edwards, who was now on his way to the county jail.
"We will question him and will let you know if we find anything else out." Watts put her notepad back into her pocket.
"There's more, Officer," Liz interjected. "Jeannie is being stalked online, and her ex is sharing her photos."
"Mom!" Jeannie gasped.
"I'm sorry, Jeannie, but this has gone too far now." Liz took Jeannie's hand. "It's time to put an end to it."
"Stalked?" Watts asked, first looking at Liz, then over at Jeannie.
Jeannie sighed. "It's a long story."
"Then start at the beginning," Watts said in a comforting manner. "I have all night."
Jeannie, with the occasional interjection from Liz, recounted the whole tale.
"I still probably need to change my number, but I really don't want to," Jeannie sniffled. "It's the last piece of my dad that we still have, and I was just hoping that this would all fade away on its own."
"It would probably be for the best, but that's entirely up to you." Watts patted Jeannie's hand gently.
"You said Owen Andrews is your attorney?" Watts looked back at Liz.
"Yes, he's a personal friend," Liz confirmed.
"Good, he's really good," Watts nodded in approval. "You might want to bring him up to speed with all of this. We might have a really good case here. Chances are Edwards will be out on bail sooner than later, but the info we get out of him might help us bring this Jesse fellow down. It sounds like he's done this very thing before."
"Thank you, Officer," Liz smiled.
"Just one more thing," Watts asked. "You don't have any idea who the person spoofing your number could be? Any mutual friend who Jesse might've hurt?"
"No idea, Officer," Jeannie shook her head. "Maybe the mobile provider might know?"
"That's a lot of paperwork and effort, but we'll do it if we have to." Watts stood and began walking to the door. "Lock the doors and be vigilant. Don't go out after dark. Just be safe and call us if there are any new developments."
"Will do, Officer," Liz stepped past Watts to open the door. "Stay safe out there."
