"What on Earth?" Liz took Jeannie's phone in her hand. "What kind of sick, cruel joke is this?"

"What if it's not a joke, Mom? What if it's--" Jeannie paused and looked around the room. "What if it's really him? What if he's here?"

"He's not here, Babydoll," Liz sniffled, tears welling up in her eyes. "He's long gone, but hopefully looking down at us right now."

"I don't know. I think he might be trying to contact me, or something." Jeannie turned the phone over and over in her hands.

"Poor baby. All this stress is starting to get to you." Liz pulled Jeannie in for a hug.

"Mom, it's almost Autumn. They say that it's the time when the veil between worlds is the thinnest. We don't really know for sure how it is on the...other side." Jeannie spoke with such seriousness that Liz couldn't help but consider her words.

"I mean," Liz sat down beside Jeannie. "It was his phone, his number." She paused. "No, no, Babydoll, this can't be. It doesn't work that way. It's gotta be something or someone else." Liz stood and began pacing around the room.

"Maybe," Jeannie stood and walked toward her mother. "I honestly don't care what it is as long as it helps us stop Jesse."

"Very true," Liz nodded. She glanced over at the alarm clock on Jeannie's nightstand. "Ha, look." She gestured to the digital display. "It's 3:33."

"The witching hour," Jeannie added as the tell-tale buzz of an incoming message sounded from Jeannie's bed.

Jeannie stepped over and grabbed the phone.

"What the?" She gasped. "You have to believe me now, Mom." She pushed the phone toward Liz.

it's really me Lizzy-Pie.

Liz gasped. She hadn't heard that nickname in years. She grabbed the phone from Jeannie and began typing into the keypad.

if it's really you, Mark, when is our real wedding anniversary?

"Real anniversary?" Jeannie looked up at Liz, confused.

"We...never told anyone. But...well, let's just see." She nodded to the phone.

It would have been yesterday. In Las Vegas. U wore white Doc Martens.

Liz's eyes filled with tears. "Nobody knew that. It was a secret. We did it just for us, but had our big wedding for the family. I told my family I went to the beach with some girlfriends. Nobody knew. There weren't even any pictures."

It's me. And I'm going to help you get to the bottom of this Jesse bullshit. Not just for you, Babydoll, but for Melaina Johns too.

Melaina? Liz typed in. U know about her?

Yes. The phone buzzed. She is stuck between worlds, and we are going to help her move on.
