The sand beneath Nia’tari’s feet was hot—not from sun, but from memory. The glyphs unearthed in the Great Circle glowed in hues unfamiliar to even the oldest bloodkeepers—deep violet, molten copper, pale obsidian. Not flame-colored. Shadow-colored. Ayika tilted her head, her fingers tracing the lines. “They knew fire. But they didn’t trust it.” Sanaa nodded. “When the Flameborn rose, there were those who chose a different path. They refused the gift of remembrance. They chose root instead of flame. Earth over ash.” Darius stepped back. “And now they’re stirring?” Lucien answered, voice low. “They’re waking.” Nia’tari knelt beside the glyphs. Her sigils—still fused, still living—dimmed slightly as her palm hovered over one in particular. A spiral within a triangle, etched so deeply it seemed carved into time itself. The moment she touched it, a vision struck. She stood in a black garden. No sky. No wind. Just soil stretching forever. In front of her, dozens of people knelt—eyes covered, hands buried in dirt. Their backs were tattooed with roots. They spoke in one voice: “You burn to be remembered.We root to be undisturbed.What lives below does not serve the flame.” Then one of them looked up. It was her own face. “If you are the future... then we are its consequence.” Nia’tari woke with a start, her breath jagged. “They’re not enemies,” she whispered. “They’re answers.” Sanaa watched her closely. “Answers to what?” Nia’tari stood, eyes focused. “To what comes after the flame.” That night, Ayika found a new symbol sketched in the dirt outside their tent. It wasn’t hers. It hadn’t been drawn. It had grown. Roots. Formed into a name none of them had ever seen before, but one that sent a pulse through the earth: N’Gara. Lucien looked to Nia’tari. “What does it mean?” She stared down at the roots. Her voice was steady. “It means the flame isn’t the final story.And something else wants to be remembered.”
