After Emily broke my heart, something inside me died. Sitting in the café, watching the snow fall, my world crumbled as she whispered those words that shattered me : “I’ve met someone else.” Those words echoed in my head for weeks, even months, I couldn’t stop thinking about what I had done wrong, how I could have been better, but in the end, it didn’t matter. She had moved on, and I was left standing in the wreckage of a life I thought we were building together. That night, walking back to my apartment alone with the cold biting at my skin, I made a decision. Never again would I feel that kind of pain. Love had been a trap, a beautiful illusion that inly led to misery. If this world was going to take everything, I would take something back. I stopped caring about love, about connection, about anything resembling vulnerability if the warmth of Emily’s love couldn’t be mine no one else’s affection would matter. Time to get in control over myself over my heart over the pain. Women gave me that control. A night out at a bar, a casual flirtation with someone whose name I didn’t even bother to remember, quickly learned that I could charm my way into her life with ease, make her feel special, make her believe there was something between us. But it was all my game to never let them get close. They were drawn to the mystery, the darkness. Instead of running, they leaned in, thinking they could be something more to me but I didn’t care. The clubs became my hunting grounds. The pounding bass, flashing lights, the heat of bodies pressing together in the dark, it was like stepping into another world, where nothing mattered but the thrill of the moment. The eye contact lingering long enough to reel them in and then move in for the kill. A few drinks, some small talk and soon enough they were like taking candy from a baby. I became an expert at seduction, I knew the right words to say, the right touches to give, making them feel like they are the center of the universe but deep down, there was no feeling behind it. It give me a rush, watching faces light up with the attention I gave, watching them fall for the version of me I allowed them to see, knowing that by the morning, I’d be gone in the wind. I never stayed; I left before the sun came up, slipping out of bed and disappearing into the night like a ghost. Never giving them a chance to get too close. Walking away without looking back, my heart as cold as the night air, sometimes I caught the glimpse of them the next day eyes scanning the crowd, searching for me, hoping for an explanation that would never came. I couldn’t care. It wasn’t just about the women, it was proving that needing anyone wasn’t necessary. That living without feeling, without caring, was possible. Each new conquest was another step away from the pain. After a while, the thrill began to wear off. Late night hook-ups, meaningless sex it all started to get boring. No matter how many hearts were broken the emptiness remained. Life was being filled with distractions, but the hole inside still was not. Staring into the mirror after another one night stand, splashing cold water on my face, I looked and saw a stranger looking back, someone who was unrecognizable, cold, detached and hollow. I told myself it didn’t matter that this was who I need to be, but deep down the truth gnawed at me. I had become the very thing I despise, a man despise man incapable of love and of connection, and the worst part? I didn’t know how to stop. I built a life around the idea that love was a weakness, that caring only led to pain. I locked my heart away so tightly that it seemed impossible to open it again, even if the desire were there. But was there any desire? The bad boy persona I created, the one that women were drawn too, the one that made them think they could try and get close to my heart was not real. Yet it was all I had left, It kept the world at arm’s length, kept me safe from the heartbreak that had nearly destroyed me. But as I stared at the reflection, a deeper fear took hold. Maybe, in protecting myself from pain, I had lost the ability to feel anything at all and that scared me more than anything&nbsp;
