Chapter 1: Either God Is or God Isn’t

We must agree that the most mysterious and discussed topic of all pertains to the existence of God. Either God Is or God Isn’t. I’m 72 and was raised by a mother and father old enough to be my grandparents. We weren't churchgoers and the subject of God never came up. However, mom taught me a bedtime prayer. “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray to the Lord my soul to keep, if I should die before I awake I pray to the Lord my soul to take.” Therefore, belief in a higher power was ingrained into my psyche at a very young age. As I grew older friends would periodically bring up the subject of God. “Yeah, where did God come from? I don’t believe any of it.” I certainly couldn’t answer that question but silently retained my belief. Today, how do I know God is real? I and others have witnessed paranormal events that can only be explained as miracles. I’ve written a free 176-page autobiography titled “Two Faces One Life: The Journey Within” that explains these beautiful occurrences in detail. Link

I’m also experiencing a deep and growing peace and find that absolutely nothing bothers me. The old adage that one can lead a horse to water but cannot make the horse drink is so very true when it comes to the subject of spirituality. When you’re thirsty you’ll drink.

I am in complete and total agreement with an atheist’s viewpoint. When we read every day and are blasted by the news networks about the “state of the world”, things here just don’t seem “quite right”. Wars, crime, pollution, homelessness, disease, corruption, greed, hate, lies, and fear are constantly bombarded into the “collective psyche” all day, every day. This existence is insane, the good news is that when realizing the insanity it means we’re becoming sane. Please humor me for a little while, and somewhat consider the idea that God Is. Forty years ago, I taught a large adult Sunday school. I always had a problem with the concept of Hell and never mentioned the subject. The aforementioned “state of the world” was never discussed either. I chose to teach about the good, not the bad. I’m certain the majority of those reading have never been informed of this truth. God doesn’t even know about any of those difficulties because Source isn’t aware of the existence of this entire universe. The logic of this statement will be explained shortly. Also, God has no idea what sin is. Sin means wrongdoing and humans unfortunately do that to one another 24/7.

Religion is for those afraid of going to hell, spirituality is for those who have been there. I’m the latter. A friend once explained the definition of hell is not feeling or seeing any hope in anything at all. I’ve experienced the “dark night of the soul”, a horrible depression so deep that the first morning thought is, “Should I end my life?” This occurred for weeks after my wife of 20 years, Mary Jo, died suddenly in front of me at the young age of 43. We were on our first cruise enjoying a second honeymoon. The compression and decompression of the aircraft caused a blood clot to let loose and literally explode her heart. She was

perfectly healthy. I do not have the words to adequately explain the surreal insanity of what I witnessed. However, this tragedy started the greatest spiritual

journey of my life and is continuing to this very day. Mary Jo
