Andrew Connolly was the kind of kid who blended into the background, not by choice but by circumstance. At sixteen, he stood at an average height with tousled brown hair and a pair of thick glasses that magnified his deep-set hazel eyes. His most significant achievement in school was his GPA, which soared high above his athletic prowess.
In a world where physical fitness was king, Andrew felt like the court jester—always the target for jokes and ridicule.
Naturally, whenever the other students talk about him, it's because he can't run fast, can't catch a football or softball, and his basketball skills aren't very good, either.
The day of the big softball game was like any other. The sun was shining brightly, and the field was packed with students eager to see their peers compete. Andrew had reluctantly joined the team, hoping to fit in but knowing deep down that sports were not his forte. As he stood in the outfield, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement and anticipation.
But when the moment came, Andrew flubbed an easy fly ball. The laughter that erupted from the bleachers was like daggers to his heart. "Nice catch, Connolly!" shouted a voice, and the taunts only grew louder. Overwhelmed by shame, Andrew fled the field, tears stinging his eyes. He didn’t go home; he couldn’t bear the thought of facing his family after such an embarrassing display.
Instead, he wandered through the quiet streets of his suburban town, seeking solace in solitude. He didn't think about what his parents who say when he didn't come home, thinking he'd be better off dead.
Meanwhile, at the Connelly home, his parents Jim and Delilah Connelly were getting supper ready. His oldest sister, Daphne, noticed that Andrew hadn't come home yet. "Mom, dad, I can't find Andrew anywhere. The school said that he ran off the field, not returning to school."
Frantic, the family would call everywhere to see if anyone had seen him. The police had to be called in.
But Andrew sat in that empty spot of town, just thinking he's worth nothing.
Little did he know, his life was about to take a turn that would change everything.
