Elise sucked in a deep breath before she accepted the call. "Yes, Chief?"
"Elise, why haven't you updated me on the status of the investigation yet?" She heard a harsh voice from the other end and felt her blood boil in fury.
'It had barely been a few minutes since I arrived and this man was dying to get reports from me. How annoying!' She cursed under her breath and looked at her shoe, kicking away the broken piece of brick as though it was her Chief's head she was kicking.
"Chief, we are yet to investigate the matter completely. We have only begun." She tried but was interrupted by the shithead of a man.
"Elise, I do not want any excuses. Do your job well." He ordered and Elise felt her hand itching to give him a good beating. He was the only irritating person in her life, besides Kai of course. But she could tolerate Kai, not her Chief. Never.
"Yes, Chief." Elise suppressed her anger and looked at Kai, who was already staring at her in... concern.
Elise frowned when she noticed the man's deep gaze on her. Since a few days, she had noticed his odd behavior. He was not himself at times and she had no idea what had happened to him. 'Maybe he is having mood swings.' She thought, giving a deaf ear to all that her Chief was saying. 'Should I buy him some ice cream to bring him back to normal?' She wondered.
Kai was known among her team mates as having a sweet tooth. He could go hours without having proper food. But he couldn't stay away from any sweet stuff, especially ice creams. The man had a knack for having ice creams at least ten times a week and Elise shook her head as she imagined the sugar rush.
"Keep me updated, Elise. I do not like to be uninformed when it comes to work matters."
Elise pressed her forehead. 'I will throw a party if someone throws a bomb at my Chief.' She thought as she agreed to all that the man was saying before she ended the call.
"Was it the devil again?" Kai queried as he approached her when he noticed her ending the call.
"Who else can it be?" Elise sighed and kicked her leg against the debris in frustration again.
"What does he want?"
"What else? He is being a pain in the ass as usual."
"Why can't he lead the investigation if he is so worried?" Kai grumbled, his lips twitching in disgust.
"If only he had the guts to lead an investigation." Elise sassed. "Do you think he is willing to take the risk when he knows that powerful people are involved in this matter? He just wants someone to push to the front if things were to go wrong, which would not be happening if he were to take the lead."
"Officer Winslow, Officer Anderson, may I have a word with you two?" Daniel hesitated as he looked at the two cautiously. "I'm sorry if I am disturbing you."
"Not at all, Office Blake. Please." Elise shook her head and smiled at him lightly. "Is something the matter?"
"Yes, Officer Winslow. Here is the primary investigation we did before we came here. You might be interested in it." Daniel handed the file to Elise and waited for her to go through it.
"We have narrowed the list of people who might be our primary suspects."
"Anyone worthy of our attention?"
"Yes." Daniel dithered for a moment. "Craig Tyrell was having a tense relationship with the Sepehr twins for the past few months."
"Do you think the Sepehr twins might have bombed the warehouse?" Elise's brows creased with worry. If they were involved in this matter, then the issue was more complicated than it previously was. Sepehr twins were a force to be reckoned with and nobody in the country, or even the world, was powerful enough to cross them.
"We are under assumptions. We do not have any evidence to support us." Daniel explained his problem and looked at Kai in anguish.
"I see. Is there anyone else we should watch out for?" Elise studied the file thoroughly before she handed it to Kai.
"Yes, there is another man who had become enemies with Craig recently. Rowen Andrews. Craig and Rowen were competing for a tender. Big profits and all. In the end, Craig won."
Rowen and Craig's matter was not hidden from Elise. The entire world had watched the news when Craig had won the tender and the stand-off between the two men had ended with Rowen declaring his enmity with Craig blatantly, in front of everyone. He did not even give a damn that his words and actions were being recorded by the media and broadcasted to the world.
It was not hidden from her why Rowen had shown his fury openly. Craig had bribed the person in charge of the tender and even if Rowen was a well-deserving candidate, he had lost to the cheater.
Elise pursed her lips and analyzed all the possibilities. Although Rowen seemed like someone who sought vengeance, the current attack did not seem to be his work. It looked more like someone who did not give a damn about the world, more like the ...Sepehr twins.
"Have you tested the time bombs? Do you know where they came from?" Elise folded her hands, her right fingers tapping her left elbow as she thought about the matter.
"We are looking into it. However, it's difficult to deduce, considering that Craig's own company was into manufacturing weapons and this particular time bomb here," Daniel held out his hand and showed them a piece of time bomb, "is similar to the bombs his people made. There is a high possibility that this bomb was made in his warehouse."
"This is bad." Elise relented. "I'm sure with all that is happening, we will not be finding any answers soon. Craig is dead for sure, my gut feeling says it."
"I think so too. Otherwise, he should have been here by now." Daniel agreed. "His father is one of the people who exploded into smithereens here. He should've been here at least for him."
"Let me make a call, Officer Blake. I'll get back to you in a minute." Elise excused herself from Kai and Daniel and searched for the one person who could provide her with the leads.
"Officer Elise, to what do I owe this pleasure of you calling me?" She heard the woman on the other side chirp.
"Rosy, I have something to ask of you."
"Please speak, Officer. I will give my reply once I find out what you want of me."
"Can you find out where Craig Tyrell is at this moment or was some time ago?"
"Is it due to the explosion?" Rosy paused for a moment before she questioned her back.
"Yes. I need to locate him to find out who is behind this catastrophe."
"I'll not guarantee the result. But I'll try my best, Officer Elise. We are dealing with influential people and I might lose my life if they catch me." Rosy stated honestly.
"It's fine, Rosy. Just do your best."
"I'll get back to you in fifteen."
"I'll wait for your text."
