Shuut… Jleb… A loud gasp escaped the lips of a beautiful girl. She was the culprit, yet she felt no guilt at all. “Your heart belongs to me,” she hissed with a faint smirk. Sreek… Arghh… Her screams grew louder as the girl violently tore open the left side of his chest and pulled out the man’s heart without mercy. In that very moment, the man who became her victim died on the spot.Seeing her target dead, the girl smiled with satisfaction, took a black plastic bag from her pocket, placed the heart inside, and took care of the rest. “All done,” she said, seeing the place clean as if nothing had happened. After finishing her task, the girl went straight to meet her client at the arranged location.*** Zeina Livy Razeta, a beautiful girl who survived the horrific tragedy ten years ago. A massive massacre that struck her family left her with nothing. Surviving in a harsh world and forced to grow strong made Zeina become cruel, cold, and untouchable. At a young age, Zeina was already working as a professional assassin. Besides surviving, she also used her job to find out the mastermind behind the massacre. Zeina depended on no one; she was strong and capable on her own. For ten years, she stood and survived by herself. No one was allowed into Zeina’s life, because she wanted to focus on revenge. Zeina believed that love and care from others would hinder her path, and she didn’t want to involve strangers in her affairs.*** Brukh… “The item you requested,” Zeina said, throwing the black plastic bag containing the human heart onto the desk in front of her client. A middle-aged man sat there, wearing a black mask covering his face and a fine suit draping his aged body. His sharp eyes stared at the plastic bag for a moment. “Open it and see for yourself. If you don’t believe me, you can check it personally. The heart is indeed his,” Zeina added. With his own hands, the man opened the plastic bag given by Zeina and saw the human heart still covered in fresh blood inside. Seeing the heart made a satisfied smile appear on his lips. “Amazing. I didn’t expect it to be finished this fast,” he said with genuine praise. “Keep your praise. I don’t need it. And don’t forget the payment,” Zeina replied flatly. “As agreed,” the man nodded. Without another word, Zeina turned and left. Still sitting without moving, the man watched Zeina leave with a crooked smile. “An interesting little girl,” he said. Reaching into his suit pocket, the man took out his phone to call someone. “The mission is complete, and her performance was very satisfying. Pay her double the agreed amount,” he ordered the person on the other end of the line. “I understand,” came the reply. After receiving the response, the man ended the call and put his phone away. Then he took out a special case he had prepared earlier and carefully placed the fresh heart inside. Feeling his task was complete, he left.*** At three in the morning, Zeina arrived at her apartment. The pungent, metallic smell made her uncomfortable. A shower was the first thing she wanted. It took Zeina thirty minutes to clean herself, and now she felt much fresher. After drying her hair, Zeina grabbed her phone from the nightstand and lay down on her king-size bed. She checked the income from her work tonight. A satisfied smile appeared on her lips. “Not bad,” she said. Looking at the clock showing five in the morning, it felt too early to sleep. Zeina got up again and went to the fridge. She took a bottle of whiskey and poured a little into a glass, then stepped onto the balcony to wait for the sunrise. Leaning on the balcony railing, she stared straight ahead at the morning view. One by one, vehicles began to fill the big city streets. Zeina enjoyed the view, as her apartment was located in the city center. This wasn’t the first time; Zeina often came here when her sleep was still unfinished. The cold morning air didn’t bother her at all. Every five minutes, Zeina sipped the drink until it was finished. She only drank half a glass because in a few hours she had to go to school. It wasn’t good to study drunk, and Zeina knew her limits. Even living alone, Zeina prioritized her education. Although boring, she believed it would be useful in the future. Besides, she didn’t need to worry about the cost, because the payment from a single mission could cover her until graduation. “I miss you, bro,” Zeina whispered softly. Ten years had passed, but Zeina’s memory of that incident was still vivid. She still remembered the last hug and the most sincere smile her brother ever gave her. She also remembered the wound that caused her brother so much pain and bleeding. Zeina hated herself at that time, when she could only run to save herself and let her brother die. “Forgive me, bro. Back then, I was just a coward who couldn’t do anything…” “My life was only a burden to you, but you never felt burdened,” she continued. For ten years, Zeina lived under the shadow of death and tragedy, with only regret and words of apology when recalling it. Zeina didn’t cry; no tears fell, even when her heart broke remembering the horrifying moment. She had promised herself never to cry in any situation. If her brother could still smile despite being severely hurt, Zeina could endure it too, no matter how hard. One thing Zeina remembered: her brother disliked seeing her cry. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Zeina lingered a bit longer watching the sunrise before going back inside to prepare for school.
