Roy poured another glass of whiskey for Austin, whom paced around the lounge up and down like a tiger in the cage without stopping. Every scream from upstairs cost him one more nerve. He never felt so helpless, his every thought was with his wife where she was giving birth to their second child.
"This is taking too long....We are not having any more children..... I'm going up..."
"Drink that! All will be fine. The doctor is there, and so are Nelly and Wilma. They are taking good care of her."
"If something happened to Olivia...... I never knew it will be like this...I missed Grace's birth..." He went on and on to only stop when another scream pierced throughout the house. With each he felt the punch in his stomach.
"Austin seat down! You are driving us crazy." Nolan commented on his brother's frantic behaviour.
Suddenly there was a silence. Austin rushed out of the lounge room and hurried upstairs. He made it halfway there when a loud wail sounded through the house. His heart skipped a beat, and he flew the rest of the stairs. His hand grabbed the door handle, but the door opened, and Nelly came out.
His mother looked at him with a smile, "Congratulation! You have a son, and Olivia is fine. She is just tired. My grandson is a big baby. He took after his father."
Austin's let the air out of his lungs. It was over, the longest eight hours of his life.. A son, he had a son. He couldn't believe it.
He waited impatiently right by the door to be let in. Roy grinned at him, remembering his own times. As soon the door got open, he made his way into the room.
Olivia gave him a tired smile, her golden hair wet and plastered against her neck.
"I'm fine. You silly husband of mine. " She held a little wrapped up bundle.
"Come, and meet your son. Isn't he beautiful? He is just perfect. I think he looks like you, but wait he has my nose."
Austin stared at the little bundle.
"Welcome to the world Noah. He is beautiful. The most beautiful baby I saw."
Olivia had to smile at that. Austin was never around babies, and only babies he encountered were foals.
The proud look on his face was impossible to erase.
"Thank you Olivia! I love you."
"I love you too!"
He brushed his lips over hers, "You are beautiful. I'm very lucky to have you in my life."
Nelly came back holding Grace's hand.
The baby was already wrapped up and Grace looked him over.
"Why is he so wrinkly and red?" She asked. Austin chuckled as he picked her up and held her in his arms so she could have a better view.
"All babies are like that. I promise he'll improve." Austin grinned at Olivia. She was tired but happy. She looked around and her heart swell. Roy and Austin's brothers also came to welcome the new member of the family, behind them was Clay holding his hat.
After they all admired the baby, the room cleared, and it was just them.
Austin glanced one more time at his son now sleeping in his crib. He came to the side of the bed.
"Thank you Olivia. You give me the most precious gift any man can receive."
He bent down and first kissed her forehead, then her nose and then her lips. " I love you! I love you more than life itself." Olivia gave him a smile, but her eyes were closing.
"You are tired Olivia. Sleep now. I'll be here when you wake up." And he was.
