Skyler pretended to comply.
Then, at the last second, she kicked the gun from his hand.
Chris cursed, lunging for the knife on the table.
Skyler scrambled, but he was faster. He grabbed the blade and pinned her to the couch, driving it deep into her shoulder.
She screamed.
“You little b*tch,” he spat, twisting the knife cruelly.
Skyler let out another agonised cry.
Chris raised his hand—
The door burst open.
“Police! Drop the weapon!”
Chris barely had time to react before a taser struck him. He collapsed, convulsing.
Skyler sagged with relief as an officer pulled her away.
“Jane and Jason,” she gasped. “They’re in their room.”
“We’ll get them,” the officer assured her.
The paramedics arrived and tended to Skyler's shoulder wound.
They still wanted to take her to the hospital but she gently refused.
Minutes later, Jane flung herself into Skyler’s arms, sobbing.
Jason followed, wrapping his arms around them both.
A different officer approached, smiling. “So, who was the brave one that called us?”
“Jane,” Jason answered proudly. “I didn’t even think of it, but she grabbed her phone from the table in our room and called 911.”
The officer ruffled her hair. “Well done.” And Jane was all smiles.
Jason smirked. “Honestly, Jane, that’s the smartest thing you’ve ever done in your life."
Jane’s smile vanished.
Skyler sighed. “Don’t start now, you two.”
The three of them sat in silence, staring at the night sky.
Grateful to have survived.
