Violet
This place was really creeping me out.
Especially that… that lake…
It looked exactly like the one I saw in my nightmares.
But I guess I was just being too paranoid. It couldn’t be?
I decided to stop being so stupid and sensitive. And enjoy this camping trip.
After all my friends were by my side. Nothing bad could happen.
We all entered our cabin and I instantly said
“Dibs on the bunk!”
Everyone stared at me, and laughed.
“Girl, ain’t no one wants the bunk you can have it.” Mei laughed.
“I’ll take the other bunk.” Aaron said. And suddenly Mei and Jayce shared weird glances at each other.
They weren’t thinking what I was thinking right…
“Woah. Why are you guys looking at each other like that?” I asked confused.
They both started laughing, while me and Aaron just stood there staring.
It was now around 7pm and we were getting ready to roast marshmallows! EEEE my fav!
“Well go to the teacher to report attendance first, you and Aaron can come later, make sure to bring the crackers!” Mei said as she and Jayce walked out.
I looked back at Aaron to see he already took the crackers out so now all we had to was wait.
“Come on, let’s go to the others.” Aaron said after a few minutes.
I nodded my head and we left the room.
On our way to the roasting site I caught a glance at the frozen lake, the sky was dark, which made it even more similar to the one I saw. I just couldn’t shake the feeling off.
It was driving me crazy. My body started shaking again as the image of the boy falling beneath lake appeared in front me. I felt dizzy. My head started spinning.
I could feel my lungs tighten, which was making it hard to breathe.
I instantly looked away and stopped to catch my breath.
It’s ok. It’s ok. I kept repeating to myself,
“Vi, are you ok?” Aaron said as he looked back.
I could hear him but I couldn’t see him properly.
My eyes were blurry and my head was already spinning.
I quickly bent down to remain my balance, because I felt like I was about to fall.
And Aaron instantly ran towards me.
“VI!? VI!? “ “YOU’VE BEEN SCARING THE HELL OUT OF ME SINCE THE BUS RIDE, ARE YOU OK?” He asked.
His eyes didn’t move a bit. They stared at me. I could see the concern in his eyes. And I could see he cared for me…
His stare suddenly made me cry, I wrapped my hands around him and tears started to fall out of my eyes.
I couldn’t take it anymore, I had to tell someone, anyone!
“Vi, please tell me if you’re ok, you’re scaring me.” He said as he hugged me back.
Then I opened up to him. I told him every single detail. And he looked shocked.
“Violet, it’s okay. It’s just your imagination. It’s not haunted or something.” Aaron said to me seriously.
“In fact I’ll show you later, trust me.” He said while pulling me back up.
He held my hand and we both went to where Mei and Jayce were.
“Ugghh! What kept you so long!! The marshmallows are already about to finish” Mei groaned.
“Sorry, we forgot the crackers, so we went back to take it.” Aaron apologised.
“Dude, you had one job!” Jayce laughed at him.
He smiled back and we enjoyed the rest of the night.
We were now about to sleep an were already in bed.
Mei turned off the lights and we all went to sleep,
Lake. Boy. Crack.Smile.
“AAAA” I screamed as I got up.
Again!
My body was covered in cold sweat again, and I was having trouble breathing again.
“What happened?” Mei said half asleep.
She turned on the lights.
And woke all 4 of us up.
“Vi, you good?” She said as she looked at me.
“Woah, girl are you ok?” She said again as she opened her eyes fully.
She stood on her bed, as she reached her hand up to touch my forehead.
“Violet, why don’t you come down?” She said her voice was etched in concern.
I listened to her and got down as I sat in her bed she grabbed my hands and rubbed them, so I could feel warm.
At this point Aaron also came down from his bunk, and Jayce also got up.
“You mind telling me why you looked so sick and anxious now?” Mei said worriedly.
Then as they all sat next to me I told them everything again. Aaron already knew, but this time I told the others.
I could trust them, cause they were my friends.
“Vi, you’re being too paranoid. Come on, I’ll show you.” Jayce said.
He got up, grabbed his coat, and got out out of the cabin,
“Come on, let’s go the lake and show her.” He said,
The rest followed, and Mei pulled me in to do the same.
And in a few minutes we were standing in front of the frozen lake.
“Come on guys! It’s actually pretty cool!” Jayce said while laughing.
He took a few steps towards the frozen lake slowly.
We all followed behind him and reached the middle of the lake.
I guess I was wrong, it wasn’t creepy after all. Even though it was already past midnight.
“See Vi, everything’s all right!” Aaron said as he smiled at me.
But then suddenly I heard something…
It sounded like a… a crack.
“Did you guys hear that?” I swallowed.
Then another crack was heard.
Then another one.
NO, NO, NO.
The ice, it was breaking just like my dream.
My eyes opened wide and my lungs felt like they were on fire.
Suddenly, the lake cracked beneath his feet, and he fell into the lake.
“JAYCEE! JAYCEE!” Mei yelled.
“No,NO this… it’s all my fault.” I whispered to myself, while trying to get a hold of my breath,
Jayce was struggling to get back to the surface, it was like something was pulling him from beneath.
Like in my dreams, the boy was being pulled by something I monster…
The ice was starting to crack even more, and pull Jayce uncontrollably.
Everybody started screaming.
“Guys, help! HELPP!” Jayce called out,
But nobody was helping him.
“Guys, guys run RUNN!” I screamed after him. We had to run.
Then Jayce’s eyes suddenly turned black and that same creepy smile played on his face.
“NOTHING EVER STAYS DEAD.” He said while smiling at me.
And with that he let go of his hand and whatever was in there pulled him violently inside,
And the frozen lake closed up.
The cracks were gone, Jayce was gone.
I couldn’t process all this. I quickly fell to the ground.
Nooo.. no. Jayce. This was all my fault.
What had I done.
Aaron and Mei had the same look in their eyes.
We lost our best friend.
And it was my fault.
No this this wasn’t real. It was just my nightmare right!?
RIGHTT!?
