The frozen lake cracked beneath his feet as he tried to get to her on the other side. She watched from her hiding place in the trees wondering if he’s going to fall through. The ice cracked further and he moves faster to get to the other side. He has to find her.

She is wondering if she should stay here or risk moving further away. She can hear traffic in the distance so there’s a road nearby. Does she run toward the road? She decides to stay in the trees for now, maybe he’ll go past her not knowing she’s there.

He reaches the safety of the other side of the lake looking everywhere for her but can’t find her. She’s decided to move slowly away from where she is, trying not to make a noise so he doesn’t see or hear her.

The snow has started again and soon he will be able to see her footprints so she has to be clever about where she moves to.

She decides to loop back round to the other side of the lake where the old abandoned cabin is and where she can shelter from the cold. She’s aware that he is getting closer to her so she stops and stands as still as she can in the hope that he turns the wrong way.

She tries to work out how long it will take to get over to the cabin and works out if she treads very carefully she could probably get there pretty quickly so she needs to make a move as soon as possible.

He knows she is close he can feel her presence, stopping every few steps to listen for any sound she makes, her breathing? Her footsteps? He senses that she’s close to him but not sure where she is hiding.

She can see him now so she slowly tip toes between the trees trying to keep an eye on him and make sure she stays hidden from him. She moves slowly from tree to tree toward the cabin still hoping he cannot see her. She needs to get her breathing under control as it’s so cold she can see her own breath in the air.

Step by step she slowly works her way round the lake keeping him in her line of sight at all times and hopefully at a safe distance from him.

He’s getting annoyed now because he knows she’s near but still cannot find her. He’s trying to figure out what she might do, he can also hear the road noises and wonders if that’s where she’ll go. No that way is quite open at least here there are trees to keep cover so she’ll probably stay within the tree line as it’s easier to hide there. He keeps listening for any noises, like twigs breaking or birds suddenly flying off. She can’t be that far away now, she has to be close. He’s thinking about what would he do if he was her, where would he go? He’s thinking she needs shelter from the cold and she will head back towards the cabin to get out of the snow so that’s where he’ll go.

She can still see him and she’s trying to keep him in her sights as she snakes her way through the trees, she’s quite a distance away still but she still has to take it very slowly and deliberately so she doesn’t make a noise and give away her position. She thinks that if she keeps up this pace she will reach the cabin in around 20 minutes or half an hour but can she stay hidden for that long? She can only hope.

He stops and listens to see if he can figure out where she’s hiding but he can’t hear her or see her. He’s looking at the ground to see if she’s left footprints in the snow but it’s getting really heavy now so any footprints are being covered up pretty fast. He’s getting really cold so maybe he should just head to the cabin and wait to see if the weather eases up a bit. Yes that’s a good idea if he hurries through the woods he’ll get there in about 20 minutes and he’ll just wait it out there.

She stops at the biggest of the trees and looks back, she can’t see him now and she doesn’t know where he’s gone. What’s she going to do now? Does she keep on the same path or will she change direction and try and find a safe spot in the trees? She can’t do that it’s getting too cold she needs the shelter of the cabin so she decides to keep on going.

He’s nearly there just a few minutes and he’ll be in the shelter of the cabin where he will try and wait out the storm, hopefully it won’t be long.

She’s nearly there but she still can’t see where he is. He can’t have gone far; he must be near here somewhere. There’s a crawl space under the cabin that she can get to on the left side of the cabin near the back. Hopefully she can stay there till he gets fed up looking for her and gives up. Then she’ll be safe.

He’s inside the cabin and it’s still cold but not as bad as outside so he’ll wait out the snowstorm here. There are blankets on an old couch in the corner so he sits there taking the best one there is and wraps himself up and looks out the window. Maybe he’ll see her if she heads back in this direction. Surely she’ll head back here for shelter, that’s the sensible thing to do.

She’s reached the cabin from the back near the entrance to the crawl space. She can hide in there because she doesn’t think that he’ll look there for her. She managed to get in the space without making any noise so she’s safe for now.

All of a sudden she can hear his footsteps coming from inside the cabin. Oh my goodness what is she going to do now? She can’t make a noise; he can’t know that she’s hiding there. She tries to lie as still as she can but something has just brushed against her leg. No! It’s a rat! She lets out a slightly muffled scream and he knows she’s there. There’s nothing she can do now, he has her in his sights. He heard the noise from the crawl space so he goes under the cabin to catch her. He grabs her by the ankle and shouts at her TAG – You’re it!

They can now hear their parents calling their names from the other side of the cabin and it’s time to go home as he says to her tomorrow it’s my turn to hide
