“We need to find out what happened to them,” C wrote for the first time since Alice had joined the group. N sighed and looked down at her hands for a bit.
“I know you’re right, but for all we know they are dead.” N wrote. Both Alice and F stood up in unison and screamed “That can’t be true!”
“Sit down,” N said calmly but sternly. They both sat down shaking and F started crying.
“We have no idea where they are, but they are both probably in their apartment or at work,” N said.
“Yes,” Julieta said. “We should bake something for when they come back.”
“I think we should go after them. All of us together. Bring anything that can to help or defend us, and make those people in uniform tell us what they have done with them,” C wrote. They went back and forth after that, discussing what to do. C wouldn’t back down on the fact that they needed to go there. N finally caved on the fact that they all should go.
A few days later the five of them met up. C had agreed on the fact that they shouldn’t bring more than they could carry in their pockets, to not catch suspicion. Alice had taken a few razor blades from the store, Julieta had brought a pocket flashlight, F had brought a pocket knife, N hadn’t brought anything and C had brought a backpack. N glared at C but didn’t say anything. They walked up to the building and N reached for the doorknob.
“It’s locked,” N said. C walked up to the door and opened his backpack. He took out a tool from it and started working on the door. The others, except for N who kept staring at C, looked around nervously. After a few minutes a click could be heard from the door. N took the lead and opened the door before C had time to put his tool back in his bag.
It was just a small room inside. On each of the walls there were hanging human shaped suites with uniforms. F gasped and was about to leave but Julieta took a hold of her hand and gave it a small squeeze. N and C examend the suites. Alice tried to keep herself from throwing up.
“It’s not real skin,” C said. “It’s just some weird and realistic fabric.” That made F relax a little bit.
“But why would they need something like that?” Julieta asked. “It makes no sense, why wouldn’t they just have the uniform on?” It made C stop and think.
“I guess they don’t want to be recognised,” C said.
“But why would they care? They are the one in control,” Julieta said.
“Maybe,” C said. “They want to be able to walk among us and keep an eye on us without us realising they are part of this.” C and Julieta looked at eachother.
“Start searching for a door or some kind of opening, they must have gotten in some way,” N said. “We can figure out why they use this later.
“But if it’s true that it is people in town who put them on to hide themselves, then there might not exist another exit.” Julieta said. N turned and stared at Julieta.
“Shut up and start looking, before I make you,” N said. Everyone stopped in chock and looked over at N, a darkness surrounded her that neither of them had seen before. C walked up and got in N’s face.
“You shouldn’t speak to her like that,” C said.
“You and the rest might not understand this, but we don’t know how long we will have to search this place or what the consequences might be if they find us here. So if we want to get anything out of this we better hurry up,” N said. She leaned into C’s ear and whispered. “I have killed many people bigger than you with my bare hands.”
C took a few steps back and looked at the ground. “We better just look while we still have time,” he murmured. Julieta’s mouth was wide open. N turned around and went back to searching and so did C. F put her hands around Julieta. Alice started searching but couldn’t make herself touch the suits and just walked around the room.
“I found something!” C yelled. The others gathered around him. Between two of the suits, the size of about two fingers, was a hole with light coming through it. C stuck his fingers in it and pulled. The wall went a little bit towards him and then it opened up. The hole wasn’t that big so they had to bend down not to hit their heads. Once all of them had gotten through, it closed by itself and wouldn’t open again.
There was no sun in the sky, instead there were flying balls of light that lit up everything. At once they realised this was not earth.
