November Challenge - "She kissed him goodbye, knowing he wouldn’t remember her tomorrow."

This short story is about a middle aged couple who are reluctantly accepting the fallout of their marriage breaking up.

Constance knew their time together was limited. But goodbyes proved harder than she thought.

What if someone offers you a chance to spend time with the person you lost? The catch? You only have a short time to spend with them before they fade away again. In this story, a woman gets that wish, to spend time with the husband she lost a while back.

Her ghost haunts him, but he can't remember her. She follows him throughout the day, he sees her in the fog, but is she really there? He feels like he should remember her, but he can't. Only in his dreams are they truly together, dancing on the ice of a frozen lake.

She loved him. Just for a moment in time as she has many before. Forgotten in memories of times unkept, for her the flame of each burns painfully bright even after they have long forgotten. Healers are wounded by the love they give, and the keeper of the flame burnt by the light they offer to those lost souls. It is not only an eternal gift, but for her it means eternal pain.
