I am a bird, and flying in the air is one of my FAVORITE things to do. One day, I was shot. Pfoo, a sharp pain had pierced my body. I had a metallic taste in my mouth. I didn’t know what to do. Feathers drifted in the air as the wind rushed past my wings. I was plummeting and the ground is growing ever nearer.. Blood followed me down. I closed my eyes from the plummet, and everything went black…My mind was still stuffy, like it had cotton balls stuffed up in it. A muffled voice shouted as I woke. Gentle hands grasped my aching wings. A girl shouted, “ETHAN! What the HELL? Why did you shoot this Finch?” It sounded like I was underwater. I fell back into the blackness that was behind my eyes. Suddenly, I was in a city, walking with legs. I was just walking, no destination whatsoever. It was weird, being a human again like a warm ratty moth eaten blanket. I’m only human afterall, but I don’t want the blame to be put on me for the mistakes I’d made in my past.&nbsp;	How did I end up here? Why am I in this situation and how do I get out of it? I think. I fade back into black and I don’t have a feeling where I am or who I am temporarily.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I wake up, and this time, I am in a cage. I noticed right away as soon as I came to my senses that my right wing, possibly the one that had been damaged, was bandaged up. It had old blood seeping onto the outer edges of the bandage, but otherwise it feels like a dull pin prickling sensation in it. The cage that I am currently inhabiting is made of gold and has everything that there might be in a cage for a typical pet bird. A swing in the center, a feeding and watering area, and a place to see out of the cage and where I am currently.The room looks to be a living room, with a beige L shaped couch with the shorter part of the L facing me, a vase on the side table with intricate patterns painted blue, a TV on the wall in front of the couch and a fireplace underneath. There was a rug that had been in the sun for SO long that most of the colors were bleached out of it. The rug’s patterns were with intricate spirals, designs that could only be made by a very rich company. Then I saw a hallway on the other end of the couch.Thinking back to when I was young, when all of this had started. It is one of those memories that I can distinctly remember when I had been suddenly moved into another body that wasn’t mine. I was chilling watching my favorite show just a few minutes ago. When I was trying to stretch because I’d become a couch potato at this point, I realised that my limbs were shorter. W-were those… Feathers? Did I have a sleeker body too?? I moved my head around, and Oh Lord, why can I see almost my entire body?! I think. This was not right. I was just knocked out all of a sudden. Everything in my brain went black. I couldn’t feel the limbs in my body, or the things that I was thinking. It felt like a good few hours, but then I suddenly woke up here, in a cage on a table that looked like it was in a science lab. I was disoriented, scared, and I did not know what was happening to me.&nbsp;A few people had walked into the lab just then. The first one I saw was a guy. He was tall with short, cropped, black hair and bangs, shaping his face nicely. His face looked like it was from Japan. He was wearing a mask, lab coat with a Japanese flag pin on it along with a pair of rubber gloves. Underneath the lab coat, he was wearing a hunter green button down shirt, pants that are supposed to go with a suit, and a solid brown belt around his waist for the pants.The other person who had walked into the lab with him, was a short girl who had pink fluorescent hair. She was also wearing a lab coat and gloves. Under her lab coat though, she had on a maroon t-shirt and a black skirt that went down to her knees. Her hair was long and black, going to the middle of her back. She had an air about her like the kind of person who was too intimidating to make small talk with people at the coffee shop whilst waiting for her coffee to be made.	They were looking for something. When they started to talk they spoke in a language that I understood, but very vaguely. Some of what they said was about where things were, and the woman seemed annoyed that she couldn’t find her object.“ARGH!! Dokodesu ka (where is it)??” the woman said. She took a deep breath in and let it out slowly. “Tetsudatte moraemasu ka (Can you help me)? Kudasai (please)?”&nbsp;	“Nani (what)? Hai (yes)!” the man said. “Sorehanandesuka (what is it)?”“Sore wa, watashitachi ningen no tamashī o kono tori ni utsushita midoriiro no kesseidesu. (It’s the green serum that transferred our human’s soul into this bird).”It went on like this for a few minutes. The woman looked&nbsp;and asked where it could be over and over again, and the man just stood there looking around, not helping at all. All the while, I was looking around for the little green vial as well. I spotted it at the end of the table that&nbsp;was at. It was one of those vials that was the stereotypical vibrant green you see in scientific medical shows.That’s all that I can remember from that day, the rest of it was just a blur, and coming back to the present, in the apartment with the L-shaped couch, I wanted to see what was down the hall behind the couch. I rattled the cage and I tried to open the door to the cage. It swung a little bit open, and I moved the door out the rest of the way. I stepped down from the swing I was sitting on, and onto the bottom of the cage and over its edge.Where I was placed on was a nightstand, a deep mahogany brown, with some books piled up on the top of it. The drawers had handles painted in a gold finish, from what I could tell looking down. I walked a few steps forward, wondering for just a moment if the people who live here, I believe one of them is named Ethan, and the other possibly something like Alexis would be coming back anytime soon. After that moment had passed and no one was coming to check what that noise was, I assumed that it was safe to venture out.I fell to the ground, wincing as I hit it; I had forgotten for a second that I had been shot. I scuttle across the ground, whilst looking up to see where I was. It was like if you imagined being an ant and seeing it from their perspective, all the furniture and cabinets and other things so tall that you can’t see over them! I scuttle across the ground and past the kitchen, into the hall that I had seen from my perch.This hall was covered in dark blue paint and had a TON of paintings. I had not seen this stuff as I had been busy with looking at where I was and getting oriented to everything that was around me. I went into what looked like a bedroom. It had a tall bed with the headboard of the bed against the wall facing to the left underneath the window, there was a nightstand to the right of it, and a dresser that was the color of a deep mahogany red with the tint of berry red, making it pop out. When I go into this room, it reminds me of all the fun things that I used to do with my friends. I realise now that I want to be human again. Having my old life back would be a miracle to get! I could be chilling with friends, getting paid to do nothing, and just having a normal life again! I try to think of those fun times I had, and picture myself in my human body again.I tried turning back into my human self, I couldn’t do it. It was like there was this road block in my way and I couldn't figure it out. Why? I ask myself in a tearful, chirping voice. Tears begged to burst out of my skull and run down my face like the Niagara Falls because of the frustration and realization that I can’t turn back. Oh God, oh God, oh God. God DAMIT, why?? “Why?” my voice is hoarse when I whisper out loud to myself, though when it comes out, it sounds more like a frustrated chirp. I wanted to scream, but I never thought that it would be this hard…I calmed myself down, taking deep, shuddering breaths until I thought that I was calm enough and tried again; this time, with a different technique this time. This time, I imagined myself as a human again, imagining all of the limbs on my human body; legs, arms, torso, chest, head. Each one of those things came into existence in my mind. It was like the fog that had been my road block, was suddenly lifted! I saw my body silhouetted out VERY clearly, against a white background in my mind. I began to think of how each of those mandibles used to feel and work. Slowly, I went into a deep concentration state of mind, I wanted to feel, I wanted to move, I wanted to not fly anymore, but walk!It was a painful process that I had to go through. I had to think of each individual limb and how it grew back. My tiny bird bones started to crack and extend. I first thought of my legs coming back. It was a VERY painful sensation, like, if you had the pins &amp; needles type of sensation, but 10x more painful in every limb, that’s how it feels getting back into my human form. I open my eyes and look down. Holy shit, I think, tears brimming my beady little black bird eyes. I have my LEGS back!! It hurts like hell, but I have them back!	I now try my torso. Oh god, this is gonna hurt the most. I imagine the same thing, grunting, and screaming because it hurts like HELL; feeling the cracking of the bones stretching, and the muscles tearing to go into the form of a human torso. This goes on until I have my torso, arms, head, and chest back; along with all of my feminine details that I had lacked whilst being in bird form. My right shoulder throbs with a sharp pain. I had forgotten that I had been shot there; some blood dripped down my arm, and I needed new bandages. I also realise that coming from being a Finch, transformed and am now nude. Realising that I don’t have anything to wear, I look around the room and I recognize the mahogany red dresser. I remember that I had seen it from the ground. I go over there immediately, and look inside of it. There are underwear, bras (thank god), some shirts and pants/shorts. What I have found to wear is the following:Red underwearA lace-like bra with clips in the backA black shirt with a simple design on it (♐)Simple black jeansBlack socksJust as I’ve finished putting on all of the clothes, I hear the door open. Crap, I think. They are gonna wonder about how I got in here. Crap, crap crap…	“Yes, I know Ethan,” Alexia said, closing the door and locking it behind her. “I should be more careful next time, and I will!”	“Okay, but when do you thin-” Ethan stops talking suddenly. He must have seen the door to my cage open. “Did you open the cage, Alexia?”“No,” she said. “I didn’t. Help me look for our Finch friend.”The sound of her soft footsteps comes quickly to where I am. My heart is beating a thousand miles an hour, panicking at what I should do; I hear her getting closer, and decide to slowly poke my head out of the door frame in the bedroom. I see Alexia’s face, white with shock and fright. “E-e-ethan?” she says in a timid voice, and scared voice. “C-can you come here a sec?”“Sure, uh,” Ethan says. “What seems to be the prob-” They are standing next to one another, faces aghast with fright and terror. “H-how?” Ethan asks. “How did you get in here? Are you trying to rob us? WHO are you, why did you get into our house, how did you-”	Ethan then sees the bandage on my right arm, his figure physically relaxing, just a little bit. “You're the finish who I shot, is that right?”	I struggle to speak because I haven’t spoken the human language in a VERY long time. “Ye-yes. I-I am Finch y-you shot. I-I mean no h-harm. I no wanna alarm you. I tra-tran-transform int-to human just now.” I say, all in a stuttering voice. God, how LONG has it been since I’ve ACTUALLY talked to humans?	“Okay,” Alexia says slowly. “Let’s say that I believe you. How did you get out of your cage? And how did you come into my room?”	All of her words crash into me so suddenly, that I have to take a second to process them. Just then, Ethan steps in and says, “Let’s give her a second, okay? I know that you have a TON of questions for her, but let’s not bombard her with them.”	“Okay,” she says with her cheeks puffed out and in a defeated tone.Ever since then they have given me enough time to tell them about how I became a Finch in the first place and how I became human again. This happened a few weeks ago now.When I transform, I don’t even notice the cracking of the bones or anything like that. It’s become more natural to me to transform. Now, I don’t even notice the cracking of bones or the melding of them breaking apart and then coming back together as a femur, or an arm bone, or something else. It’s like it’s a natural way of life for me. Nowadays, I hang out with my friends, I have a good job that pays me a considerable amount, and I have a partner who has supported me with all of this and when I told them about it as well! Hoping that I can someday find the scientists who did this to me and ask them why it happened, that is another self-discovery story for another time!
