My dull slate-coloured hoodie was soaked down to the tassels on the hood and the stitching on the sides as I hurried inside. I breathed out a sigh of relief as I entered. The lights flickered as they provided a sense of comfort as I walked up the chipped stairs, and the railing was chipped with paint. I finally got to my apartment. Number 73. The gold across the numbers started to rust, but it didn't really bother me. I turned the oval handle as I entered. Relishing in the silence once the door was closed. Only the quiet falls of rain pattering on the window could be heard, but it still felt so loud. My shoes were discarded near the door, small white trainers that were scuffed, untidy, definitely used, but definitely loved by all means. Written inside was my name in case I foolishly lost them right next to the shoe size....5 1/2 sized and my name.. Jenna McKingly. They were definitely due to be replaced with some nicer ones, but my mind wasn't on the shoes I had worn since school. My mind was at peace. Peace had just been my priority until my phone had just started ringing. Rudely. Abruptly. Ruining my one tether to my sanity as I glared at the screen in annoyance. My best friend was calling. "Hello....?" "Where the fuck did you go last night!?" She exclaimed angrily. I couldn't understand why she was so mad at me. Was it just for picking up a phone? Was it that I didn't call her when she wanted me to? That I didn't text her when I was free...? "Hello! Are you still there?" Okay, she is getting frustrated. "Aesha, what is wrong?" I calmly tried to reason. "Um, did you NOT just hear me? WHERE. DID. YOU. GO. LAST. NIGHT?" She punctuated every word like I was a child; it wasn't needed. "Well...I don't know...last night was a bit of a blur...?" I rubbed my head in confusion as I closed my eyes shut, trying to recall anything that happened the night before, but I just couldn't. I must have been wasted. "So..you just so happen to forget that you went off with a really cute guy who took your number?" She said it like it was something that was just so recent and so freshly ingrained in my memory, it should have been. But it wasn't. "No..? I don't remember it..?" I said as she, much to my dismay, hung up on me. Immature. At least tell me when I've fucked up or when I should be aware if something is going to happen that I should be at least conscious of...wait...was..I unconscious? Oh...I really was wasted... Suddenly, the phone started to ring again, this time...a number that I didn't recognise. I watched it ring, waiting for it to die out so I could shut it off altogether. It faded out and stopped abruptly. I usually ignore phone calls that I don't recognise as they're mostly spam... Later that night, I couldn't shake the eerie feeling that shook itself up my spine, the hairs on my neck standing up erectly as I couldn't shake the impression that I was being watched. I put it aside as a result of my paranoia, as I lived closer to the ground, and it was common to see pedestrians on the side just look in absentmindedly. This was different, though....a different I didn't want to understand or pay any mind to. So, I did what any less so relaxed individual would do. I pulled back my covers, slipped into my light powder blue bedding and sheets and curled under the weighted blanket, the chill from the outside trying to seep into the cracks on the walls. 2:13 AM. The red lights flickered on my alarm clock as I turned over groggily. I shook my head and pinched my eyes as my sudden state of consciousness was catching up to me after I had just been asleep. The cold brushing against my cheek as I turned over, checking my phone until my face paled... 17 voicemails... From the same number.... Who was it? What happened last night?
