The next morning, she woke up to the sound of giggles echoing through the small apartment. Andrea was playing with her toys, a bright smile plastered across her face. Summer felt a swell of warmth in her chest, the love for her daughter washing over her.&nbsp; “Good morning, Mama!” Andrea beamed, her eyes sparkling with joy.&nbsp; “Good morning, sweetheart,” Summer replied, kneeling beside her. “What are you up to?”&nbsp; “Building a rocket!” Andrea declared, a tiny cardboard box perched precariously on her head as a helmet. “I’m going to space!” Summer laughed, the sound light and free. &nbsp;“Can I come with you?” “Yes! You can be my co-pilot!” Andrea said, her little hands reaching out for Summer’s.As they played, Summer felt the remnants of her encounter with Kyle fade away, replaced by the pure, unfiltered joy of being a mother. She had made her choice, and though it was painful, it was also liberating.&nbsp;“No more secrets,” she whispered to herself, a promise to both Andrea and herself.&nbsp; The phone rang later that afternoon, disrupting their laughter. Glancing at the caller ID, her heart raced as she saw Kyle’s name flash across the screen. She hesitated, her mind racing with what to say. But as the second ring echoed in the room, Andrea came bounding over to her, her little fingers tugging at Summer’s arm.&nbsp; “Answer it, Mama!” Andrea urged, her excitement infectious. Taking a deep breath, Summer answered, her heart pounding.&nbsp; “Kyle?” “Summer, I—” he began, but she cut him off, her voice steady.&nbsp; “I can’t do this, Kyle. I’m not the answer to your problems. ” “Please, just hear me out,” he pleaded, desperation clear in his voice. “I need to see you. We need to talk—” &nbsp;“I can’t talk about this anymore,” she said, her voice firm. “I’ve made my choice, and it’s not you.”&nbsp; “Summer,” he said, his voice heavy with regret. “I understand if you’re angry, but I—”&nbsp; “Angry?” she laughed softly, the bitterness creeping back in. “I’m not angry, Kyle. I’m just done.”&nbsp; “Done?” he asked, disbelief lacing his tone. “You can’t just throw this away.” &nbsp;“I’m not throwing anything away,” she said, her voice breaking. “I’m choosing to build a life for my daughter, one that doesn’t include you.”&nbsp; There was a long pause on the other end, and she could hear him breathing, weighed down by her words. &nbsp;“I never wanted to hurt you,” he said finally, his voice a whisper.&nbsp; “I know,” she replied, her heart aching. “But you did, and I can’t keep letting you back into my life. It’s time to move on.” &nbsp;“Summer,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “I don’t want to lose you.” &nbsp;“You already have,” she said softly, feeling the finality of her words settle like a weight in her chest. With that, she hung up the phone, the silence in the apartment enveloping her. Andrea climbed into her lap, her little arms wrapping around Summer’s neck, and Summer held her tightly, grounding herself in the love she had built.&nbsp; “Ready for another adventure?” Summer asked, a smile breaking through the heaviness in her heart.&nbsp; “Yesssss!” Andrea shouted, her laughter echoing in the room, and together they began to build their own rocket, one that would soar into the skies, free from the shadows of the past.&nbsp; As they crafted their dream of space travel, Summer realized that she was finally at peace. She had chosen her path, and though it was fraught with challenges, it was also filled with hope. In the end, love had not abandoned her—it had simply transformed, blossoming in the laughter of her daughter, in the bright future that lay ahead. And that was enough.
