"You have no freedom to end your creation"
~Pens&Keys
Before I could question Godric about his sister, my phone buzzed. A reminder alert that I need to be at Clarissa’s. Standing in front of her door, I waited for her to answer. I could hear her moving around inside. Annoyance growing with every step she took towards the door.
“I’m not inviting you in.” Clarissa announced from the other side of the closed door.
“Are you planning on speaking through the door?”
“I am going to open it, but you are not welcomed inside.”
“Understood Clarissa.” Unlocking the door, Clarissa blue eyes met mines. Her deep purple crochet dress revealing too much skin for the winter outside.
Opening the door two inches more. Clarissa stood in the door frame. Her red hair pulled into a complicated knot at the base of her neck. She appeared much older than her actual age. Pushing her green brim glasses up the bridge of her nose. She stood up straight. The warm aroma of healing tea and honey encompassing her body.
“First thing, I lied to the necromancer and yourself. I am not fully Clarissa Cravemount. At least not in the way you know me to be. I am sure you have figured it out by now. However, I am not your enemy either. The necromancer can go to hell for all I care, no offense.”
“Offense taken.”
“Fair enough. You seem attached to her.”
“I am offended on behalf of hell, not Elloren.”
Perching her lips, she said,
“Weird, but okay. Like I was saying. I am Clarissa just a version of her that exist only inside her dreams.”
I do not have the patience for this. Pushing Clarissa inside her room. I held her by the throat. With her pulse beating in my hand, I sunk my teeth into her neck. Drinking her in. As her blood pooled into my mouth, Clarissa screamed. Her fist connecting with my body, however not creating any damage upon impact. Three hits later, her screams are now moans. Pushing her against the wall as she attempted to tie her long legs around me. I can smell her arousal. This is stage two of draining a human, arousal. If I wanted her arousal, I would allow her to linger here. Suspended in the state of anticipated pleasure. However, her arousal is not satisfying to my senses.
Taking another deep drink for her neck. Her blood gliding down my throat. I regret not hunting during The Hunter Games. Clarissa started to slouch. If I do not stop now, she will die.
Pulling myself back from her. Clarissa slid down the green stone wall. Her crochet dress pooling beneath her. It would take at least three minutes for her senses to return to her blue eyes. In the meantime, I need to check in with Godric. After I left to come here, he went to Elloren’s. Pulling out my phone and dialing his number he answered first ring.
“I am honored that you remembered.”
Remember what? What is he talking about. Sitting on the white marbled countertop, I glanced at Clarissa. Her breathing still heavy, her body still coming down off the high of my bite and the slight touch of exsanguination.
“Remembered what? How is Elloren?”
“You asked of you could call me Monday night, I replied yes. You called. I am honored.”
Removing the phone from my ear I muffled my laugh. I cannot muffle my smile though. He remembers everything.
“I can hear you smiling, St. Vincent. To answer your second question, Elloren is fine. I doubt she is in any pain. The curse is on the course of rewriting or erasing the conversation. I have witnessed my sister do this before. Elloren will return to you within the hour.”
Sighing and thanking Godric and hung up the phone. Now I can focus all my attentions on Clarissa.
Looking around her studio, plants hung everywhere. Lavender leaves, orange leaves, red, leaves, yellow leaves, and grey leaves, all mixed together in the garden oasis of Clarissa’s school home. Behind me a teakettle started to blow a loud whistle as steam escaped the small opening at the top. This placed reminded me of a place a once read about. Something about humans who garden.
“Can you get that? It is giving me a headache.”
“That would be from the blood lost. First comes euphoria then comes the consequences.” Using my telekinetic powers, I removed the teakettle from the heat of the stove.
Slowly dragging herself to sit steady against the wall. Clarissa coughed causing more blood release through the two bite wounds in her neck.
Placing her hand over them she asked,
“Can you do something about these fucking holes? I am going to bleed out.”
“Non, your blood will clot soon. You will not die from blood lost today.”
Coughing out the words, “Great. Now how the fuck did you trick me into letting you inside?”
Looking over at the oasis of plants whose only separation from each other came from a white couch. I answered.
“I am not the sort of vampire that requires an invitation.”
“Is that Royalist thing?”
“Non, it’s a me thing.”
“Why bite me?”
“You are a menteuse.”
“For fucks sake Alucard I do not speak French. If you are going to insult me. At least be brave enough to do it in English.”
Dragging my eyes back to Clarissa’s face. The fire is back. Her skin pale and covered in sweat but she is lucid again.
“How did you get into this school Clarissa. Before you speak, know that I am fully capable of ending your life.”
Laughing Clarissa sat up a little more.
“I am a medium Alucard. You think death scares me? I have seen the other sides.”
Opening her eyes from her last blink. My face was all she could see. Jerking back, her head would have hit the stone wall if I allowed it to. Clarissa’s heartbeat did not speed up. Despite me being so close to her. She does not fear me. Good. Instilling the fear is always better.
The blood from my bite wounds on her neck flooding my senses. My fangs slowly grew.
“Tell me then Clarissa, have you experienced your true hell?” I asked, licking the dried blood from her wounds. Clarissa shivering in response to my wet tongue, shook her head no.
“What are you doing Alucard?” Her question thick with arousal.
“Playing with her food.” Elloren answered from the doorway. Rolling her eyes she and Godric walked inside. Elloren taking my old seat on top of the countertop and Godric opting to sit in the wooden chair next to the window.
Coming to my full height and giving Elloren a once over. She appeared to be fine.
“I am not playing.”
“Then you are seducing?” Godric asked with amusement behind every word.
“Non.’’
“Trying to kill me.” Clarissa advised from the floor behind me.
“Okay, then proceed.” Elloren said smiling.
“If everyone would just shut the hell up, I can explain what I am. No need to attack me any further Alucard. What I am about to say is the truth. ” Clarissa stated, attempting to drag herself to her feet.
Giving up mid-way she collapsed back onto the concrete floor. It will take a minimum of four days before her body replenishes the blood I drained.
“You drank from a medium Alucard? Ew.” Elloren said, pulling her heavy cardigan across her body.
“You find them repulsive not me. Besides her blood taste like sugar.”
“I am a dream version of Clarissa. Not a copy or a clone. I am not here to cause any harm to anyone. Clarissa doesn’t remember summoning me.”
“Fascinating.” Godric said from my old position in front of Clarissa. Moving her head from side to side. He examined her. Touching her lips, her arms, her legs, and placing his ear to the center of her chest.
“Your heartbeat is out of sync.”
“My heartbeat is in tune with the world from which I come. Now please remove your cranium from my chest. Stranger.”
“Wait hold up.” Elloren responded. Pushing me to the side with her hand.
“You mean, that’s your power? Or Clarissa’s power? She.. you.. can really do that?”
“Necromancer how dense can you be? Clearly, I can.”
I honestly need to pay more attention in school. What the fuck is going on?
“So that story you said earlier is false?” Elloren asked.
“My story is valid. My reason for telling you was not. I am not in any danger. I wanted to see just how bad the curse is.”
Standing to his full height. Godric seemed to foresee where Clarissa is headed. Quickly glancing at me, he shook his head. Elloren just came back. I cannot risk her disappearing like that again.
“Why is the real Clarissa bonded and imprisoned in my home?” I asked. Trying to derail her thoughts without derailing the topic.
“Kholie.”
“Who is that?” Elloren and I asked in unison.
“A mute witch.”
“The mute witch from our home?” Elloren asked, looking at me for confirmation instead of the person giving the information.
“She is a mute yes. Alucard, can you do anything about these bite marks? They sting like hell and it's rather difficult to not think about them, not pass out and reveal my intentions all from this ridiculous concrete floor. Who the fuck idea was this anyway. Concrete floors in a fucking school.”
Leaning against the kitchen countertop, I asked Elloren.
“When you left the room to locate the mute witch. No one told you, her name?”
“No. They did not know her name.”
Picking Clarissa up from the floor. Godric carried her to the couch. She will lose consciousness soon.
“My name is Godric Victorian. Why are you here Clarissa’s shadow self.”
“What is a shadow self?” I asked to anyone who can answer.
“It is a power only a few mediums possess. Most people can only dream or be delusional about who they are or who they want to be. Not me, I have the power to recreate and bring to life any version myself. I am who Clarissa thinks she will be in a few years.” Clarissa stated as she laid down on the couch.
Placing a pillow under her head, Godric replied.
“I follow. This power of Clarissa’s is not yet controllable. She brought you here to keep herself safe.”
“She brought me here for me to die. No need to politeing it up. She does not remember that part though. She only remembers what happened to her prior to my arrival. She thinks I am her clone. Her plan is to have one of The Holy Trinities enter me. Then Clarissa, the one you know. Will kill me.”
“What a stupid plan. Is she not aware of her own limitations?” Elloren asked.
“She did not see her memory lost as being one of those limitations. The dead usually fill in any gaps. However, since Kholie brought her to The Counts Manor. The dead have limitations.
“Okay, so who is Kholie?” Elloren asked, throwing her hands into the air.
“I am not sure. I only remember what she looks like. Blue eyes, blonde hair, looks to be about fourteen.”
For few moments my body froze as my mind raced to pull up the image of the fourteen-year-old from Elloren’s mother’s home. Blond hair, blue eyes, a complete psychopath. Fuck.
Ice began to pour outside before I moved again. This did not go unnoticed by Godric or Elloren.
By the time I was ready to speak again, Clarissa was unconscious.
“You went somewhere Alucard. You only go motionless like that when you go somewhere in your mind. Where did you go?”
I was certain that Alexandera and the little psychopathic bitch were the same person. How could they not be? Ignoring Elloren’s question and using “Devil’s Search” I located the mute witch from my home. And there she was in true form. No longer a raven-haired mute to me, but a blonde psychopath. Sitting down on a chair I recognized from my mother’s room. She manifested a grimoire. I could not read the name of the witch whose grimoire it was. However, I can recognize the steal of magic around it. Black flames that smelled of burnt sugar.
Blinking back to the present in front of me. I glanced over at Clarissa or shadow Clarissa. Without hesitation. I lifted her off the couch using my telekinesis and snapped her neck. The Shadow Clarissa’s body instantly becoming consumed by black flames. That should break the spell placed on the real Clarissa.
“What the actual fuck Alucard.” Elloren said jumping down from the countertop. Her heeled boots clicking against the concrete floors.
Glancing over at Godric. His only response was to raise an eyebrow from curiosity, not concern.
“I will explain. But first, I need my coff…” The world went black and all I could feel were the flames of a black hell burning through the parts of my soul rendering my human capabilities.
