The year is August 11th , 1975 , the peak of summer ; hottest day of the year. All the children in my village gathered to go and swim in the mill in attempt to battle the blistering heat , we walked as a large group many of us exchanging pleasantries and begining to converse either about the weather, previous week and others : the latter . We stumbled down the grassy hill a great group of sweating children and complaints of the younger in the group, only on their fifth summer and not yet used to the heat like the eldest of the group who neared their 16th summers . "OUCH!" One of the younger children yelled jumping and cradling their foot "I just hit my foot," afew of us turned to look at her while the rest continued, to hot to care , my attention drifted to the ground where Ethel previously stood . The ground where she had previously resided had a wooden plaque with words and numbers engraved "there's something on the ground" I pointed out to the 3 children still remaining. They all angle their heads to the ground looking where my eyes were already residing . The plaque read "time capsule ~ 2025." we all exchange cursory glances at eachother before we crouch down before the mysterious plaque , "isn't that 50 years from now ?" Jehova asks genuine questions lingering in his eyes , "we should dig it up." I offer , jehova, Ethel and niklaus offer up nods as they grab some sticks fallen from the oak tree and begin scraping at the floor , a pitiful attempt honestly , only 15 minutes later did they finally meet a solid object . "The capsule." They all breathed a sigh of relief at once . Ethel reached into the shallow hole and pulled it out , brushing the excess dirt off , attempting to find a latch to open the box . Ethel's fingers thoroughly searched the box coming up empty , they decided the best and only option was to smash it against a boulder .After 3 attempts the box finally shattered revealing the contents , none looked familiar , infact none if the children could work out what the items were . One item was rectangular and had a shine , like a mirror , another was a coloured photograph with 3 people around my age , 15, all wearing bright coats and hats unlike any style I'd seen "what is this?" Niklaus murmured looking at the final item which looked an awful lot like the crowns they saw monarchs wear however looked appeared to be made of a lesser material . " was the owner of this box a queen?" Ethel offered "I don't think so , but I don't know who they were ." As I spoke I noticed a letter among the pile of broken box pieces , the children gathered around to read what the letter said , however only I could actually read so they all looked to me expectantly, I nodded showing my understanding of their request " this capsule was buried by poppy , sophie and Elizabeth. -2025To be opened 2050 Hello! Whoever opened this ( hopefully me , Elizabeth and sophie) at the time me and my friends are 11 and 12 and by the time you open it we should be 36/37 and working our dream jobs but if we aren't that's ok because we will all still have eachother ,Love poppy!" It was scrawled in un neat writing barely legible. "How do we have this box if it was buried in 2025?" Jehova asked ignoring everyone's lack of knowledge on thus subject . I looked back in the hole , hoping to find something else useful but instead I audibly gasp at the purple and pink swirl where dirt should be, I drop an acorn in and it disappears. The others look at me and ask the question we all wish to know the answer to " what is this?"
