The rain hasn't stopped since the machines took control. It's been three weeks from the day machines and highly qualified robots replaced every employee in every store and factory. At the beginning everything seemed going great, until a week ago. During a rainy night of March some of them broke into the Mayor's house and killed her along with her husband and children. The next morning, when the news of the murder were spread around the city people tried to destroy robots but their efforts were pointless. With the Mayor gone, machines found the opportunity to take over the whole city, while killing all those who resisted.People live in fear, terrified for their lives, trying to protect their loved ones as every day more people are collected from the machines. Senior citizens, adults, even little children are assemble together and led to a brutal and painful death. Everyone is into survival mode; willing to do absolutely everything in order to stay alive yet murder but who would blame them?Since the night of the Mayor's murder the rain hasn't stopped pouring down making everything soaked. It's like even the nature senses that the existence of humanity is coming to an end. Although, the weather has given a minimal advantage to people; it makes machines vulnerable. The majority of them are not capable of being exposed to any water or any liquid as it destroys them completely. Under those circumstances some people found the courage to try and eliminate robots but they were defeated and led to slaughter.Never did I truly trusted them, robots, with the technology developing at a blistering pace and becoming more advanced every single day I was terrified what would happen if machines got out of control. I guess there is no need to wonder, not anymore. I could never understand how people could believe in their reliability. My parents were two of those people, they counted on machines for everything, for doing the laundry, the dishes even to drop them of at work and pick them up later. I tried to let them know about my doubts on the matter but they always said I shouldn't worry that much.This morning thought, my parents who never saw the high-tech robots as a threat were taken and were killed from them. With them gone I have nothing left anymore except a small house while it's just a matter of time till they kill me as well.I'm walking down an isolated street with my hair wet falling in my face trying to perceive the death of the two people I've been know since the moment of my birth. It's hard to reach a compromise with the idea that I will never see them or talk to them again, life goes on though. But for how long? Suddenly, a strange noise is coming from a corner, then someone's cry can be heard. I quickly hide behind a rubbish bin. I take a peek and I see a big white robot pulling a little boy from his arm while he is screaming and crying so hard that it seems he has trouble breathing."No! Please, please!" he yells loudly and the sound of his voice makes my heart brake. He screams one more time and the robot hits him with some kind of laser and then he lays on the ground. When I see that I accidentally let a small gasp escape my lips which provokes the robot and turns to my direction but fortunately it goes to pick up the lifeless body of the little boy. It lifts the little boy up and the next minute it disappears in the rain.My eyes are slowly tearing up not just because of the sadness this incident makes me feel but from anger as well. It's unfair, the way machines try to force people to serve them. Humans created them and gave them the chance to exist, so why are they treating us like that? And no one can get out of it, the only way to escape is to go away, far from the city somewhere else; somewhere without machines. That's it! I'm going to escape, I will get out of here! If I find a way to escape, I will be free. I will be able to do whatever I want to without being scared of any machine. But what if I get caught? They would kill me with absolutely no hesitation. It's a risk, however I don't have anything more to lose, do I? No, I do not, my parents are gone, there is no one to try and live for. So why wouldn't I give it a try?I get up and run to my house as fast as I can while trying not to get tracked down by any robot. I arrive outside a grey building with broken windows and it's frond door missing. This cold, miserable and dingy building was once what I called my home but now it's nothing. I walk inside to grab a back in order to take some supplies with me to help me survive and start my way to the forest. Some hours later the twilight has come and I'm walking in the forest near the township line, I'm almost there. Every step I do is a step closer to freedom. My heart pounds in relief as I finally see it and I'm heading right there. Unexpectedly, I hear a strange metallic noise coming from the woods behind me. I turn around only to see thirteen robots coming to my direction. I quickly hide behind a tree holding my breath in order not to be heard. They look around like they are searching for something or someone."May Banks, we know you are here reveal yourself and nothing will happen to you." One of them says. My eyes open widely in fear as my breath becomes quicker. It's me, I'm the one they are looking for! I stay still maybe they won't notice me. My hopes are erased as soon as they start walking around and one makes its way to me. I move as fast as I can and hide behind another tree but another robot is approaching me. There is no way to get out of here. I can either stay here and wait till they find me or I can get up, run and try to get to the township line. I take a deep breath with my hands trembling but I have no time to waste on being scared. I start running swiftly without looking back but I can sense them chasing after me.I have began to get out of breath my legs are aching so bad that I think they will stop working at any second. The rain falls on the ground making it slick forcing my feet to slip slowing me down. I can listen to them getting closer and closer to me, the only thing that keeps me running and not give up is that the more I go on the distance between me and the township line becomes less.I'm now only some meters away, some meters away from liberty. My whole body is hurting really bad, my lungs are burning inside my chest, I'm so exhausted, I can't manage my breath, I feel like I'm going to pass out but I'm less than ten meters away from escaping this awful town and the machines are coming to get me. Out of the blue I see some lasers flying across me, hitting the ground as they fail to hit me. They keep shooting at me with their lasers and I do my best to avoid them. I'm only six meters away now and I can't help it but smile at myself in pride. I made it! I'm going to be free!All of a sudden, I feel an awful pain in my back and in the next moment I'm laying on the ground unable to move. The pain starts to expand in my entire body as I suffer from a horrible burn that foreshadows the end is coming, my end is coming. They have hit me. No, no, no this can't be the end! I'm so close, I can't be beaten now! Suddenly, another laser hits me and it's like someone is sticking me with a flaming poker making my whole body numb. I sense a shortness in my breath, coldness encompassing me and my eyes heavy. I want to get up and run but my body has given up. I want to scream but my voice has faded away. I want to fight but my strength has petered out. As I lie here, the pain swallowing me whole, memories flash through my mind. I can see them, my parents, their faces, their warm smiles and their welcoming hugs. My hopes, my dreams of a different life, a life of freedom seemed to be possible yet so far to touch. I can see the township line in less than four meters but I can't reach it. I will never reach it. I shut my eyes, allowing the darkness to enclose me, with the hope maybe, just maybe I'll meet them again.
