The alarm wasn't supposed to go off yet. A few months ago me and my two friends were walking around our neighborhood. We were mourning the loss of our friend Ryan. Nobody was around it was a dewy Sunday evening. We walked around moping and talking about our memories with Ryan. Joan started talking about how he was different before he died. "He kept saying he was seeing things. He was hearing things." A tear darted down her face before she could finish. I put my arm around her as if to tell her it would be ok.

It wasn't ok. None of this was ok. "He kept saying 'their below us' I just don't understand" Ryan started going crazy a few weeks after being found. He was missing for a week. When the police found him he said all kinds of crazy things. We kept walking until we saw the tree, the tree they say the found him. "Nico it's a crime scene for a reason." My friend Xavier was worried we would get lost too. "Stop being such a baby. It's just a dumb tree." I reached out and touched the oddly soft bark. When I looked up my friends were gone.

"This isn't funny guys." Nobody was around for miles only trees and the path back home. I started to walk back home but the people looked different. Nobody was talking. Nobody was smiling. Everyone looked so blank. I walked up to a man and he didn't even notice me. Everyone was walking in straight lines like zombies. "Help!" I shouted as loud as I could, they kept walking with their blank faces. I started to walk home. I saw the alarm that my parents set for when I was supposed to be home. For some reason it had been going off when I went in the house. The calendar read 3088. I saw my parents sitting on the couch starring at the wall. The looked the same as the mindless people outside. I looked up and saw a camera pointing at me. I quickly ran outside only to see cameras everywhere. Was this our future? I ran back to the tree touching it again, nothing happened. I was stuck. Dumb tree. Dumb zombies. Dumb alarm.
