”She doesn’t remember how she got here and she probably doesn’t even want to be here”! Yelled AA Sponsor Alex as she was growing frustrated by the second.

Alex was frustrated at Whitley (an alcoholic in denial) who stormed in the AA smelling like alcohol was coming from each and every pore of her skin!

Sponsor Liz: She wouldn’t be here if she didn’t want to be here. You were once in her same shoes! Do you remember your very first AA meeting? I do vividly, and not only were you intoxicated, you were obnoxious and you smelled bad. Please display the same grace and hospitality that you were given.

Alex: You are absolutely correct Liz. I apologize for allowing my emotions to take over. I’ve also have been feeling weak lately in the area of temptation. With hubby getting laid off and Braxton being bullied at school, I’ve been so close to buying wine to relax my mind. I even picked up a bottle at the store the other day, but I put it back.

Whitley: (who was eavesdropping from the couch across the room where she appeared to be passed out)

I finally remember how I got here. I saw you at that grocery store, and I saw you put that bottle away with teary eyes. I told myself if she can do it, so can I. I didn’t realize we’d meet here, but I’m glad we did. Will you be my sponsor?

Alex: That means a lot for you to ask me that -after hearing my temptation story! Knowing that I encouraged someone to quit abusing alcohol in my weakest moment has got to mean that I can accomplish even more when I’m stronger and focus on the big picture!

Id be honor to be your sponsor!

Liz: And if WE were both able to quit abusing alcohol, so can you Whitley! We are honored for you to join us!

Whitley: Thank you Liz for the vote of confidence! See, I know that I have great potential to succeed in this world. The only thing I was missing was a family or support system. No matter how strong and dependable I’ve always been, addiction along with other illnesses I cannot bear alone. Trying to bear it alone is why I’m here today. I’m here to do an intervention on myself with you alls help.
