The frozen lake cracked beneath his feet. With a quick hitched breath he stood still and waited. Slowly. He crutched down and started crawling. He had to be on this lake as his brother was trapped in the middle.

Why did he listen when his brothers suggested to go ice skating. The ice was to thin. But he realized to late and his brother was to far out. Slowly he made his way. The ice popping under every slight movement.

"Don't move! Stay as still as you can"! He yelled out to his petrified brother. The ice kept snapping. Crack. Water was starting to bubble up. He wouldn't make it. He was suppose to protect his brother. Now both of them may not make it home.

Gurgle, gurgle. The water was started to soak his clothes. The winter chill was setting in. "HELP"! His brothers cry broke him out of his dispear. The ice was cracking around him as well. It will be to late. The ice will break and drown him before he gets there. With a deep breath he slowly stood up. POP! Looking at his brother he ran for it. SNAP! CRACK! He reaches his brother, snatches him up and keeps running.

CRAAAACCKKK! No. It's breaking to fast. The ice ahead is started to break. He won't make it. They are to heavy together. "Run!" I yell as I set him down. We are close now. If he runs by himself, he'll make it. He races towards the shore. As he got there I saw the smile on his face vanish as he realized I wasn't there. He turned around. "Nooooo! Brother!! Please. You have to make it. Please". His sobbing continues. I yell "I love you!" As the water rises over my head.

The ice gave way once I shifted to let my brother go. I stood no chance. It was still to deep for me to stand. At least my brother is safe. My final thought let me die peacefully. Then I awoke. Not physically but spiritually. An Angel stood before me. "Dear child" he spoke. "You gave your life for the protection of another. For that, we are turning you into a Guardian Angel. You must protect the one you saved and his future family as best as you can". "Gladly" I respond.

For the next eighty years, I watched my brother visit the lake with his children, and grandchildren. He always told them of that fateful day. How to always be careful and safe when traveling on ice. And how he loved his brother more than anything.

When he passed away at ninety-two, we were finally reunited. We embraced and went on to protect our family for years to come.
