Caring for a loved one is a full-time occupation. It’s a labour of love, but hard work. The first part of this story is a dream I had whilst caring for my wife. It develops into a piece of historical fiction about a ghost who helps somebody in the present.
Star Trek meets James Herriot in this story when a spacecraft from Egremontey, (known as TOI-700 e by Earth astronomers), captures people from Earth, and other planets. They are sold as a job lot to a pet shop on Egremontey. All that is except Isaac, who the Co-Pilot keeps as her own pet.
Because of the lower gravity, the people of Egremontey are giants compared to the people on Earth. Somewhat similar to the size difference between a dog and its owner. It is most unusual to find an alien life-form that looks similar to their own kind and this makes that breed of pets more popular, and they fetch higher prices than the other pets. For her next cargo, instead of going from planet to planet, the Co-Pilot fills the craft with people from Earth.
